Thursday Night Football Game

The UK Wildcats will take on the Auburn Tigers at the new Commonwealth Stadium at 7 p.m., on Thursday, October 15, 2015. This game will bring the national spotlight – and logistical challenges – to the UK campus.

UK Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration Eric N. Monday and Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart formed a broad-based working group in October 2014, including representatives from UK’s finance and administration areas, university relations, athletics, police and emergency management, among others, to address opportunities and issues associated with UK’s first Thursday night game.

Additionally, three lots on campus will close earlier. The Commonwealth Stadium Green Lot (adjacent to the Oswald Building) will close at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14, and the Gluck Equine Lot and expansion section of the Orange Lot will close at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14. The Rose Street Garage (PS2) and the Press Avenue Garage (PS6) will be available for employee parking; however, employees are encouraged to remove vehicles from these facilities before 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15 to accommodate additional football visitor parking.

Those students and employees who park in areas restricted for credentialed game day parking will be accommodated in a variety of community partner off-campus parking facilities.  These parking areas are assigned by group in order to ensure adequate parking is available and to streamline the shuttle service.

The university is partnering with a leading transportation management firm called, Go Ground. The Go Ground buses – all of which are disabled-accessible - will transport members of the UK community to and from assigned remote, off-campus parking lots.

Routes are designed to transport passengers to different locations on campus. Therefore, the community is encouraged use the directions below to ensure individuals park in their assigned area and use the correct shuttle.

Regardless of whether or not your individual parking areas are directly impacted by game day parking restrictions, all UK students and employees should anticipate longer commute times on game day and plan accordingly.

Where to park on game day

UK HealthCare employees who normally park in football game-day restricted areas on south campus will park in three lots around the Lexington Center (Rupp Arena) on Thursday, Oct. 15. Orange lot parkers

For employees parking in the Orange lot near Commonwealth Stadium, all cars should be removed from the lot’s extension area by 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 14, to allow for RVs with football game parking permits. Those not moved by 8 p.m. may be towed into the main area of the Orange lot. The rest of the Orange lot, as well as Parking Structure #1 near the VA Hospital, will be closed to employee parking at 7 a.m. on Thursday, October 15. Cars not removed by that time will be towed at owner’s expense. (see map for lot closing times)

Evening shift

Parking for evening shift employees will not be impacted. UK HealthCare employees will continue to be authorized to park in the Kentucky Clinic and Hospital garages (PS nos. 3 and 8) from 4:30 p.m. until 8 a.m.

Return to normal

Permitted employee parking will resume in the Orange lot near Commonwealth Stadium and in Parking Structure #1 near the VA Hospital at 5 a.m. Friday, October 16.
