Undergraduate Degrees
UK offers the following undergraduate degrees in Music:
Bachelor of Music in Music Performance
Those whose primary career interest is to perform on an instrument
or with the voice would choose this degree. Performing on the concert
stage, in the symphony orchestra, opera, musical theatre, recording
studio, military band, and as a jazz musician are examples of the opportunities
for careers as a music performer. This degree can also lead to a career
as a professor of music performance in a college, university or conservatory.

Bachelor of Music in Music Education
The student who wants to teach music in elementary, middle school,
Jr. High or High School should select this degree. Teacher training
in elementary and secondary classroom music, as a band, orchestra or
choral director is available, leading to certification to teach in the
public schools. This degree can lead to advanced degrees in music as
interest dictates and to a career as a university professor or in related
fields.

Bachelor of Arts in Music
This more general and flexible degree is less oriented towards teaching
or performance and can lead to any number of career options. This baccalaureate
music degree is ideal as a pre-professional degree (law, medicine, etc.).
Its broadly based academic study can be used to prepare graduates for
scholarly graduate study in music theory, composition and music history
leading to the Masters or the Ph. D. in those or related fields and
eventually to college teaching. For the student not interested in a
performance career or teaching in the public schools, this degree may
be ideal.

Music Minor
A minor in Music allows you to pursue your love of music while concentrating on a degree program in another field. Students from any college may complete a
minor in music, selecting either an emphasis in
theory/history or performance.
A successful audition is required for
private performance study in the designated
area (level of performance expectation is that
of an entering freshman music major).
