Katherine Wells

Katherine is a senior biology major who is from Paintsville, KY.  She is a member of the Honors College, currently the Honor College Ambassador Trainer, and a Singletary Scholar. She is an active member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, and has served on the Scholarship Committee and as a PRIDE Leader. She was also a member of the Student Wellness Ambassadors, a program on campus focused on promoting healthy lifestyles on campus.  She is currently participating as a research coordinator for a clinical trial for a diabetes drug at the Veterans Affairs Hospital.  She also enjoys volunteering at God’s Pantry and the Ronald McDonald House Family Room in the Kentucky Children’s Hospital.  In her free time she enjoys spending time with family and friends, watching movies, and traveling.

Tessa Blevins

Tessa is a junior psych major from Louisville, Kentucky. She’s a Singletary Scholar, a member of the Honors College, a Chellgren Fellow, and a Psych Scholar. She is also an active member of her sorority, Kappa Delta, and has served as both Assistant Vice President of Community Service and as a chair of their Philanthropy Committee, helping to put on a 5k run to fundraise for a local non-profit, The Nest. Additionally, she has served as a research assistant in Dr. Suzanne Segerstrom’s lab in the Department of Clinical Psychology since January 2017. This past semester, she completed a research project with Dr. Segerstrom investigating the relationship between optimism, day length, and seasonal changes. This year, she is excited to be a member of the HCAT team, to continue researching with Dr. Segerstrom, and to continue volunteering for Jeffrey White, Executive Director of the Nest. She enjoys running half-marathons, hanging out with friends and family, watching movies, listening to all kinds of music, and petting all the dogs she can.

Elena Gutierrez

Elena is a sophomore Communication Sciences and Disorders major who hails from Waukegan, Illinois. She is a member of the Honors College and a Chellgren Fellow. She is also an active member of Phi Sigma Pi, the co-ed honors fraternity at UK, and she has served as the organization’s Alumni/Public Relations Chair. This year, she is excited to serve as a member of the HCAT and continue volunteering as a crisis counselor for Crisis Text Line. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends, exploring Lexington, reading, and playing board games.

Ellie Wnek

Ellie is a junior from Fairfield, Ohio majoring Integrated Strategic Communication with minors in History, Spanish, and Latin American Studies. She is a member of the Honors College, Alpha Phi Omega, Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), and the Newman Center choir. Additionally, she is a Peer Mentor for the Honors Living Learning Program (LLP). This year, she is excited to meet prospective Wildcats as a member of HCAT, support her mentees in the Honors LLP, and sing in the Newman Center choir again. In her free time, she enjoys singing, volunteering, spending time with family and friends, and traveling.

Claire Kellen

Claire is a senior earning a combined Bachelor & Master of Arts in French language and literature with English & linguistics minors on the pre-law track, hoping to go into international law. She has studied abroad in Paris twice, first during the summer of 2015 with the Kentucky Institute for International Studies, and then for the Spring 2017 semester at the Sorbonne. Claire grew up near Chicago and graduated high school here in Lexington. She is a member of the Honors College, a Singletary Scholar, a Chellgren Fellow, and a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She is also the Director of Operations for the Visitor Center, the home of UK’s campus tour guides and student ambassadors. In her free time she enjoys reading, teaching Irish dance, hiking, and travelling.

Abby Shelton

Abby is a senior electrical engineering major and mathematics minor from Mount Washington, Kentucky. She is a member of the Society of Women Engineers, served as a Dance Blue Team Captain, serves on the Student Sustainability Council and the Engineering Student Council, and is a member of the engineering honors societies Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu. Abby lived in the Honors Living Learning Program (LLP) during her freshman year and was an active member in hall government. She worked as a resident advisor (RA) for two years in Woodland Glen III, which houses the Engineering Living Learning Program and now works as an RA in University Flats. Abby has completed two internships at a consulting engineering firm and conducted research with the College of Design on sustainably designed greenhouses. She is interested in sustainable design of commercial and residential buildings and renewable energy sources. She is currently taking classes to obtain her Power and Energy Institute of Kentucky (PEIK) certificate and plans to earn a master’s degree in electrical or industrial engineering. When not studying, Abby enjoys biking, running, kayaking, arts and crafts, and spending time with family.

Ryan Bass

Ryan is a sophomore accounting major from Paducah, Kentucky. He is a member of the Lewis Honors College as well as Alpha Phi Omega, the co-ed service fraternity at the University of Kentucky. Additionally, he works as a Resident Advisor in Boyd Hall (previously Limestone Park II). This year, he is extremely excited to serve as a member of HCAT and to meet prospective Wildcats and Lewis Honors College students. In his free time, he enjoys volunteering, spending time with friends, and finding new things to watch on Netflix.

Karlee Humphrey

​Karlee is a junior finance and accounting major who hails from Paducah, Kentucky. She is a member of the Honors College, Investment Club, and Finance Society.  During her time at UK, Karlee has served as a member of the Student Activities Board and volunteered her time working at the Lexington Public Library, God’s Pantry, and Big Brothers Big Sisters. This year, she is excited to serve as a member on the HCAT team.

Claire Gibson

Claire is a junior from Shelbyville, Kentucky. She is majoring in biology with a minor in psychology and on the pre-dental track. She is a member of the Honors College and a Presidential scholar. She is an active member of Alpha Delta Pi, the Pre-Dental Society, and the DanceBlue Committee. This year she is especially excited to serve as an HCAT member to be able to share with prospective new students how UK has challenged her to be the best student and person she can be. She spends time volunteering and shadowing at various clinics and dental offices in order to learn more about her future field of dental medicine. When she is not busy with academics or volunteering, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family, being outdoors, traveling, and trying new foods.

Yulia Perevozchikova

​Yulia is a senior from Morehead, KY. She is a Human Health Sciences major. Throughout her college experience, she has taken on several leadership roles, such as being the Assistant Coordinator for the Honors College Ambassador Team, Student Program Coordinator for The Study, Counselor at the Rural Health Scholars Camp. She has also had the opportunity to travel to Kuban State University for an Intensive Russian Language Program and Northern Ireland through Morehead Sister Cities International. In her free time, she enjoys playing the piano, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

Liane Ikome

Liane is a junior at UK, originally from Paducah, KY. She is an Accounting major and is part of Business Honors Pathways as a Social Enterprise Scholar. She also works for Campus Recreation and is a member of Accounting Club. Outside of UK, Liane enjoys biking, plays for USTA Leagues, and is a volunteer mentor at Boys & Girls Club.  This year, she plans to help prospective students of various backgrounds get into Honors, actively represent Pathway Honors, and continue helping youth with their goals and future aspirations.

Haley Latta

Haley is an English major from Mayfield, Kentucky. She is the Editor-in-Chief of Shale (UK’s Undergraduate Arts Journal); the Lewis Honors College Student Council Secretary; the Literacy Outreach Coordinator for Sigma Tau Delta (the English Honors Society); an English Peer Mentor; and a 2016-2017 Chellgren Fellow. She also serves as a tutor for the Lexington Family Care Center. In her spare time, Haley enjoys reading Jane Austen novels, watching Psych to brush up on her observational skills, and experimenting with different ways to make a pie crust.

Karly Kindoll

​Karly is a senior Human Health Sciences major from Louisville, Kentucky. She is a Presidential Scholar and an active member of both the Honors College and Kappa Delta sorority, where she serves as the Academic Excellence Chair. She spent the summer of 2017 studying abroad in Tanzania and is highly interested in exploring other cultures while helping those in need through healthcare. She currently works as a TA for General Chemistry lab and has previously worked as an intern at UK Chandler Hospital and a Residential Advisor for the KY Governor’s Scholars Program. She loves spending her free time traveling, hiking, and relaxing with her friends and family.

Rachelle Fairchild

Rachelle is a junior chemical engineering major who hails from Paintsville, Kentucky. Rachelle is a member SEAM, an honors pathway that incorporates engineering and business techniques. She is a member of Alpha Chi Sigma, a co-ed chemical fraternity at UK, and currently serves as treasurer of Tau Beta Pi, an engineering honors society. This year, Rachelle will begin working as a physics tutor at The Study and will also be involved in the Career Training in Oncology Program. Rachelle is excited to begin her first semester working with the Honors College Ambassador Team.

Samantha De Jesus

Samantha is a sophomore chemical engineering major from Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey. She is a member of the Scholars in Engineering and Management (SEAM) honors pathway, an Honors College Peer Mentor and a Chellgren Student Fellow. She is an active member of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), and has served as the co-chair for the Incoming Freshmen Summer Sleepover. Additionally, she has spent her time volunteering with the College Mentors for Kids and the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge here in Lexington. This year, she plans to conduct undergraduate research with a professor focused in medicinal chemistry and continue to be heavily involved in embracing and representing the Honors College. Hira Arshad

​Hira is a senior biology and psychology major from Bowling Green, KY. She is a part of the Lewis Honors College, where she has served as a peer mentor in the Honors residential hall as well as its vice president of hall government in 2015-16. She is also a member of Phi Delta Epsilon medical fraternity, MedLife, Alpha Chi Sigma professional chemistry fraternity, and Wildcat Service Dogs. She also works as a phlebotomy technician in her hometown hospital. In the past, she has served as an undergraduate researcher in the Department of Biology. She is very excited to serve her second year as an Honors Ambassador and share her love for the Honors College at UK with various students across the region. In her spare time, Hira enjoys attending concerts, traveling, playing with dogs, running, and sleeping.

Zoe Gabrielson

Zoe is a sophomore from North Carolina pursuing a dual degree in Marketing and Agricultural Economics with a minor in Political Science.  She is enjoys participating in undergraduate research in Agricultural Economics and sustainability, and is a member of the University of Kentucky Student Sustainability Council and the Lexington Environmental Youth Outreach Executive Team, where she has the opportunity to influence sustainability efforts at UK and in the Lexington community. She shares her experiences with undergraduate research and the Lewis Honors College in her role as a member of the Chellgren Student Outreach Team and the Honors College Ambassador Team, respectively. One of her favorite activities is competing on UK’s Agricultural Economics Quiz Bowl team. Her hobbies include hiking, reading, spending time with friends and family, and learning new things.

​Rebeckah is a junior chemical engineering major from Paintsville, Kentucky. She is a member of the Honors College, a T.W. Lewis Scholar and apart of the Markey Cancer Center Training Program. She is the event coordinator for Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society and an active member of Alpha Chi Sigma professional chemistry fraternity. She enjoys volunteering at UK Children’s Hospital and Newton’s Attic. Rebeckah is starting her second year as a general chemistry tutor at The Study. Elise Kreger

Elise is a sophomore from Brookfield, Wisconsin pursuing a dual degree in Human Health Sciences and Biology. She is a member of the Honors College, the Pre-Physician Assistant Club, and UK Club Swim. She spent the past summer working as a certified nursing assistant at a summer camp for children with disabilities and is looking forward to expanding her healthcare experience by volunteering at Shriners Hospital for Children in the radiology department. This year, she is excited to become involved in French Club, which she hopes will prepare her for studying abroad in France this spring. She is also training to become a dog-sitter for Wildcat Service Dogs. In her free time, she enjoys swimming, reading, listening to music, and doing outdoor activities with friends and family.

William Jackson III

William is a junior Chemistry and Psychology Major from Houston, Texas. He is a member of the Honors College, a Singletary Scholar, and a Resident Advisor. He is a co-founder and VP of Project 3rd. He currently serves as a researcher in Dr. John E. Anthony’s lab researching Materials Organic Chemistry focusing on flexible organic semiconductors. In his free time, he enjoys lifting weights, cardiovascular training, studying, finding a piano to play, playing basketball, and trying to clean out buffets.

Emma Bateman

Emma is a sophomore biology major who grew up in Villa Hills, Kentucky. She is a student in the Lewis Honors College, a general manager of College Mentors for Kids, and a member of the Red Shoe Crew. She is also an undergraduate in the research lab of Dr. Jeffrey Osborn in the Department of Biology. In this lab, she participates in researching hypertension and sodium intake in Caribbean Green Monkeys. This year, she is excited to complete her first year as part of the Honors College Ambassador Team. Outside of school, she loves to spend time with her friends and family, be active, try out new recipes, and travel to as many places as possible.

Hannah Hollowell

Hannah is a junior at the University of Kentucky with a double major in Forestry and Natural Resources and Environmental Science (NRES). She grew up on a family farm in Fall Branch, Tennessee, and came to UK as a Patterson Scholar, now studying to be an environmental researcher working on forest health and tree diseases. At UK, she is involved with the service organization Campus Kitchens, which seeks to diminish the university’s food waste, and is a member of the Forestry Club, which focuses on professional development for forestry students. In addition, she has served the past two years as a Site Leader for FUSION Day of Service hosted by the Center for Community Outreach. She also helps plan and lead events with her campus ministry, and enjoys getting involved with service opportunities. Off campus, she volunteers with an organization called GleanKY, which works in the Lexington area to prevent food waste and to redistribute excess food to those in need. Besides her involvement with university and local organizations, she also enjoys hiking, playing guitar and piano, photography, and  exploring Lexington with friends.

Ali Bertelsman

Ali, a junior from St. Louis, is majoring in computer science and computer engineering. She is a member of the Honors Program and the Society of Women Engineers, and she recently participated with the NASA Kentucky Weather Balloon Team as they documented the solar eclipse. She is currently serving as the Vice President of Internal Affairs for Phi Sigma Rho, the social sorority for STEM majors. In addition to her extracurricular activities, she works as an undergraduate researcher with Dr. Seales, working to provide digital representation of inaccessible manuscripts. This year, she is excited to continue her studies as well as serve as an HCAT ambassador. In her free time, Ali enjoys spending time with her friends and family, reading, traveling, and petting dogs.
