Three grant proposals from the UK Department of Horticulture have been approved for funding by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture through the USDA Specialty Crop Block Grant Program. Dr. Shawn Wright's proposal, "Evaluating Low Tunnel Vegetable Production Systems for Improving Local Food Availability in Kentucky," Dr. John Snyder's proposal, "Selection and Preservation of Uba Tuba, a Specialty Pepper," and Extension Specialist Christy Cassady's proposal, "Developing Specialty Crop Resources to Aid Farmers Seeking to Diversify," were among the proposals selected for funding. The USDA/Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) has allocated Specialty Crop Block Grant funds to the states. The KDA’s division of Value-Added Plant Production administers Kentucky's funds, which are based on the state’s value of specialty crop production.
