Short Term Resident Housing

Short Term Resident

Anyone staying in University Graduate & Family Housing for 90 days or less is considered a "Short Term Resident." To qualify for short term resident status, you should be affiliated with a University Department. A stay of more than 90 days would require an application, $150.00 deposit, a lease agreement, and full-time status.

Rate

A stay of 10 days or less will be calculated at $30.00 a day.(Rates are subject to change.) If your stay will be 11-days or more, your rent will be prorated based on the monthly rent and number of days in the month. Payment is due when you come into the office to complete your paperwork upon arrival. If your stay with us falls short of the original prorated charge calculated for 11 or more days, then you would be charged the daily rate payable prior to departure. Rental fee includes all utilities, basic deluxe cable, and Internet connection.

Reservation

A Short Term Resident application form for the person that will be staying in UK Graduate & Family Housing must be filled out completely. Apartments are assigned based on availability. Priority is given to our registered full time students. We do not guarantee housing. Please call one week ahead of arrival time to see if we have an apartment available. Internet Service Internet connectivity is provided at no extra charge. You must furnish your own computer equipment and CAT5 cable. To access the Internet, you must have a Link blue (formerly U-connect) account. Students and others affiliated with the University must request a Link blue account through their department. Persons unable to secure a Link blue account through their affiliated department will need to contact the Housing Manager to make other arrangements. Specific instructions will be provided when you receive an apartment reservation. Individuals without a direct affiliation to the University must request a Link blue account through the Housing Manager. Specific instructions will be provided when you receive an apartment reservation. There will be no reduction in rent for persons that do not have the ability or need to use the Internet in the apartment.

Arrival

You will need to come to the Cooperstown Housing Office, 700 Woodland Avenue Building C, to pick up your keys and get checked into your apartment. If you arrive after 4:30 p.m. or on the weekend or holidays, you will pick up your keys from our Call Center. We will provide you with complete directions to the Call Center when we confirm your apartment reservation. Your apartment assignment, Resident Manager contact, map, and the key to your apartment will be there for you. You must show a picture ID to pick up your key. Should you have any problems or questions once you are in your room, please call the Resident Manager. In case of a maintenance issue please call the Fixit control room at (859) 323-4948. You are expected to come into the Cooperstown Graduate & Family Housing office the next business day to complete all move-in paper work and make payment.

Parking

Parking Services is located at the corner of Rose Street and Euclid Avenue. Hours of operation throughout the year are Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. for sale of permits. The office is also open Monday-Thursday until 9:00 p.m. during the academic year to pay citations, to obtain information or application forms, or to obtain visitor passes. In addition, the office is open Saturday and Sunday to pay for impounded vehicles, pay citations, or to obtain visitor permits for residential areas. For information, please call (859) 257-5757.

Telephone

Telephones are not provided by Graduate & Family Housing. You must contact PAETEC to activate line service. Information will be provided to you in the office when you sign your Short Term Lease Agreement.

Linen

Linens are provided for short term residents who request them. If you need a linen packet please notify the Housing office prior to your arrival. The price of the linen packet is $5.00. The packet contains 2 flat sheets, 1 blanket, 1 pillow, 1 pillowcase, 3 towels, 2 washcloths, 1 bar of soap, and 1 roll of toilet paper. You are responsible for laundering during your stay. When you leave your room for the last time, place all university linen at the end of the bed. Rates subject to change by University Housing.

Laundry

Laundry facilities are located in each complex. Cooperstown, Shawneetown and Commonwealth Village are on a cash card system, and the price is $0.75 to $1.00 per load for washers, and $1.00 per load for dryers. You can borrow a laundry card from the Cooperstown office. You will need to place money on the card and keep replenishing it as needed. You can add value to your card 24 hours a day at the machine in front of the Cooperstown Housing Office or the machine located in the Shawneetown building D Laundry area or Commonwealth Village Laundry building. You must return the card with your keys on the day you leave. There will be no refunds given on the card. If you do not return your card, $3.00 will be charged to your account or University department you were affiliated will. Greg Page guests are on a different laundry system. They will need to obtain a Plus Account card from Food Storage, (859) 257-6185, located next to Donovan Hall. The price of the card is $1.00. You will need to place money on the card and keep replenishing it at Food Storage. Rates are subject to change by Campus Housing.

Maintenance

Maintenance personnel will be dispatched as quickly as possible in response to emergency situations. All non-emergency maintenance requests will be handled Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. excluding official University holidays. Should you have a maintenance problem, call 24 hours a day our FIXIT at (859) 323-4948. Maintenance personnel will not enter your apartment until after 9:00 a.m.

Lost Keys or Lockout

Room keys are the property of the University of Kentucky and are the responsibility of the guest. Carry your key with you at all times. Short term residents will be charged $60.00 per lock for lost room key and $30.00 for a lost mailbox key. If you find yourself locked out, please call our FIXIT at (859) 323-4948. If off-duty maintenance personnel are called in, there will be a $36.00 charge placed on your account.

Departure

Short term residents are required to vacate their apartment by 12:00 noon of their scheduled move out day. Short term residents are charged for their move out day. Keys should be placed in an envelope with your name, complex, room number and date written on the outside of the envelope. This envelope must be placed in the Resident Manager's drop box. If all keys are not turned in at the time of move out the cost of lost keys will be applied to the account. No exceptions will be made.
