March Madness and Your Career
Unless you’re a career coach like I am, you probably don’t think about your job and career at UK every waking moment. What better time to reflect than during March Madness? While we’re studying the brackets and picking our teams, many of us act as virtual assistant coaches for our beloved Kentucky Wildcats. We enjoy critiquing our players’ performances and making suggestions on facebook to Coach Cal for ways they can play their best game, utilize their best strengths and minimize their weaknesses to get the job done.
What’s this got to do with you and your career at UK? It’s Performance Evaluation time of year for many employees or will be soon. You’ve recently reviewed your last year’s achievements and set new goals for this year. Hopefully you know your best skills so that you can incorporate them into your work and ask your boss for opportunities to use more of them. If you’re unsure about your strengths, Marcus Buckingham’s book "Find Your Strongest Life" is an excellent read. If you prefer more interaction than reading a book provides, I invite you to try our web-based career tool, SkillScan, available free to UK employees here »
I’d love to talk with you about your SkillScan report, or any other career issues on your mind. Just call 859-257-9416 to speak with Abby Leonard and schedule an appointment. In the meantime, follow this link to an article you may enjoy on March Madness and your career »
