Suicide Prevention: Raising Awareness and Sharing Our Stories

In an effort to bring awareness about suicide, the UK Office of Work-Life will host a one day conference on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at the W.T. Young Library. The event will feature guest speaker and Kentucky native, Carol Graham, wife of retired Major General Mark A. Graham, U.S. Army. Carol will discuss the stigma surrounding mental health and tell her powerful personal story. After losing two sons, both whom attended the University of Kentucky -- Kevin to suicide and Jeffrey in combat -- she and her husband channeled their grief into fighting the armed forces’ suicide epidemic as chronicled in the book, The Invisible Front: Love and Loss in an Era of Endless War. The conference will also include a panel discussion, a QPR (Question, Persuade & Refer) Training Session, and a Journaling Workshop.
