Official Paid Holidays

Full-time staff at UK receive 9 paid holidays, in addition to 4 days of "bonus" days that are often approved as paid leave between Christmas and New Years. Read more » 

Sick Leave

Sick leave, also called "temporary disability leave", for staff and sick leave for faculty may be used for time off due to illness or injury or, with some limitations, to care for a sick family member. If you are a regular full-time staff employee, you earn one day of temporary disability leave each month. If you are a regular employee with a 50% assignment (0.5 FTE), you earn a pro-rata percentage of temporary disability leave each month. If you are a regular, full-time faculty member, you may be granted up to six (6) months of sick leave by the Provost. Optional Short-Term Disability

Employees with assignments of 50% or more (0.5 FTE) are eligible. On-call pool nurses with benefits-purchase eligibility may also enroll. The cost of coverage depends on your monthly benefit amount, age, and your occupational group (as described in the short-term disability plan brochure). Read more »

Long-Term Disability

Long-Term Disability (LTD) coverage contributes a percentage of your monthly salary if you are totally disabled and unable to engage in any occupation for which you are reasonably qualified by training, education or experience. LTD is provided by the University at no cost to eligible employees. An employee approved for LTD benefits receives primary benefits based on the employee's basic regular monthly salary at the time of onset of the disabling condition. Read more »

Worker's Compensation

The University of Kentucky provides Workers Compensation for injuries which occur on the worksite and for eligible occupational illnesses. The plan adheres to the guidelines of Kentucky Revised Statute 342. If you are injured within the course of employment, report your injury to your supervisor as soon as possible. The injury should be reported immediately by calling (800) 440-6285. Read more »
