How can I find out what jobs are available at the University of Kentucky?
You can search for available jobs through the UK Jobs online system.
Will you help me find a job?
Individual career and job search coaching along with web-based resources will provide you with the job search tools you need to pursue positions within the University. Once you have drafted a resume or CV, an individual appointment will help you tailor your resume and CV, improve your job search correspondence, apply for jobs, and prepare for interviews. The Career Development program does not, however, provide job placement services. It is up to you to utilize the services to improve your job search strategies and obtain a new position.
Is career coaching appropriate for me?
If you are reflecting on any aspect of your career, career coaching may be right for you. The career decision making process includes, but is not limited to: identifying your current decision-making style, assessing your interests, personality, skills and values, exploring career options, implementing your decision through effective job search strategies and preparing for career enrichment, advancement, or change. Working with a career counselor may help you stay focused, motivated and accountable.
How much time does the coaching process take?
Your individual needs and commitment to completing tasks between coaching appointments will determine how long the process will take. If you meet eligibility requirements, you are entitled to six sessions per year. Some clients only need a one time ‘touch base’ session, some come in for two or three sessions; others return for all six. It’s up to you.
What appointment times are available?
Career consultations are typically scheduled on week-days between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Earlier or later appointments may be arranged for extenuating circumstances by special request, depending on staff availability.
Do I need to take time off from work for career coaching?
Most appointments are scheduled during regular working hours. Each client is responsible for managing his or her time and making appropriate arrangements with his/her supervisor/manager/unit director. Many clients use vacation to cover scheduled appointments.
I just want help with my resume. Can I just get feedback from a counselor?
When requesting your appointment, explain that you are simply seeking resume assistance. Bring a resume draft with you to your first session. Usually, further corrections and feedback can be handled by telephone, fax, or email.
