University Regulations and Procedures

  Strategic planning has been identified as an essential component of the University of Kentucky’s governance as outline by the University’s Administrative Regulations. The purpose of the strategic planning process is to identify and prioritize the actions the University and its units can take to assist the University to accomplish its goals and fulfill its mission. The University’s fiscal plans and resource allocations shall be aligned with the University Strategic Plan
   

Basic Principles

  The principles of strategic planning at the University of Kentucky are established in Administrative Regulation (AR) 1:4The Planning, Budgeting and Assessment Cycle:
  • Strategic Planning at the University of Kentucky shall identify and prioritize the actions to be taken by the University and its units to accomplish the University’s goals and fulfill its mission.
  • The University’s mission statement shall be reviewed in concert with University Strategic Plan revisions or at least every five years.
  • Fiscal plans and resource allocations shall be aligned with the University Strategic Plan.
  • The University Strategic Plan is a dynamic document that shall be revised periodically to calibrate the course of the University and its units.
  • The University’s strategic planning process makes use of environmental analyses and varied sources of information about the University and its units as put forth in task force and committee reports, program reviews, long-term financial plans, statewide plans, and other relevant documents.
  • Input and feedback from the University community are essential elements in the development of the University Strategic Plan.
  • Following a revision of the University Strategic Plan, units within the University shall revise their strategic plans to align with the University Strategic Plan.
  • Strategic plans of the University and its units shall include four core components: mission statement, goals or objectives, strategies, and performance indicators.
  • Unit strategic plans provide the basis for resource allocations and ongoing assessment that promotes quality enhancement.
