Announcing our very first Chinese Speech Competition for UK Students and the Lexington community! The competition will take place Tuesday, January 22nd, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.in the Niles Gallery of the M.I. King Fine Arts Library. The winner(s) will be sponsored by UKCI to attend the Chinese Bridge Competition later this spring. Students will be divided into Non-native Speakers and Heritage Speakers.
The competition will consist of three rounds:
- Prepared monologue-style speech. Students must prepare a 2-3 minute speech in Chinese on a subject of their choice. They may give self-introductions, describe their families, inspirational people, schools, or the experience of learning Chinese, to name a few ideas. Heritage speakers may also talk about their connections to the Chinese Diaspora.
- Impromptu Q&A. Students must be prepared to answer questions from the judges.
- Cultural / Talent performance. This can include singing, dancing, calligraphy demonstration, etc.
