The Beijing Institutes of Life Science (BIOLS) is an interdisciplinary life science research center that is part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Its affiliated researchers number in the thousands and are located at major universities and state labs across China.
Although it is not a university, per se, it awards graduate degrees, conducts collaborative work in the U.S. with a consortium of five U.S. universities through the China-U.S. Research Center for Life Sciences.
In 2013, BIOLS invited UK to join the consortium. BIOLS is primarily interested in collaborating with UK scientists on pharmacy, psychology, aging, and obesity/diabetes research.
BIOLS’ annual support from the Chinese government is approximately one billion U.S. dollars and our agreement with BIOLS makes it possible for UK researchers to gain access to those funds for collaborative work.
