New CESL Students - Arrival Information

Welcome to the University of Kentucky!
We are excited that you will be joining us for your studies.

To prepare for your arrival to UK, please follow the steps below.  All of this information can also be found in your New Student Arrival Information Brochure that you received with your I-20:
 


 

STEP 1:PAY SEVIS I-901 FEE

Go to www.fmjfee.com.  Pay fee and print receipt.
 


STEP 2: SCHEDULE VISA APPOINTMENT WITH NEAREST U.S. EMBASSY/CONSULATE

Schedule an appointment with your nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate as soon as you can.  To find the closest U.S. Embassy or Consulate to you, visit www.usembassy.gov.
 


STEP 3: ACTIVATE YOUR LINKBLUE STUDENT ACCOUNT AND UK EMAIL

Follow the Linkblue Instructions to activate your student account and UK email address.

STEP 4: PLAN YOUR TRIP TO LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY

Plan your trip to Lexington, Kentucky. If you are not in the United States, you may legally enter up to 30 days before your I-20/DS-2019 start date. Make sure you have enough time to complete all new student arrival activities. All new student arrival activities must be completed before classes start. It is recommended that you arrive a few days before orientation.


STEP 5: APPLY FOR HOUSING

UK Students are able to live on-campus or off-campus. 

  • To live on-campus, you can find out more information and/or apply at the UK Housing Website.  Students under the age of 24 can select Undergraduate Housing.  Students over the age of 24 or with families should look at Graduate/Family Housing.  Space is limited. 
  • If you would like to live off campus, housing options are available at the Housing Locator

STEP 6: READ HEALTH COVERAGE INFORMATION

New CESL students will complete the mandatory health coverage survey during their new student workshop.  For more information about UK's Student Health Plan (SHP) and Process for CESL students, please see the Student Health Plan Website.


STEP 7: REVIEW RECOMMENDED IMMUNIZATIONS

Review the vaccination and compliance policy at UK.  We recommend that you update your immunizations before coming to UK.  More information can be found at the UK Healthcare website


STEP 8: ARRANGE AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION

The airport is not within walking distance of campus.  Students can:


STEP 9: ARRIVE IN LEXINGTON AND SIGN UP FOR NEW STUDENT WORKSHOP

All new CESL students must sign up for a new student workshop when they arrive.  In order to sign up, your LinkBlue account must be activated!  To sign up for your new student workshop, please log in to iCAT.

To attend the workshop you must bring your:

  • Passport
  • Visa
  • Original I-20
  • Emergency Contact Information – Who should we contact in the United States if there is an emergency?  Include: Emergency Contact’s Name, Relationship to you, and phone number/email address 
  • U.S. Address – must include street number, street name, apartment number (if applicable), city, state, zip code/postal code
  • LinkBlue Username and Password
