Residency Programs 

College of Medicine's Residency Global Health Program
This new focus-area of curriculum is for residents interested in studying about the care of susceptible populations within the U.S. and abroad.  Here residents can find information about applying to the Family & Community Medicine Residency Program.

AAFP – American Academy of Family Physicians – International Opportunities 
International opportunities include donating to help disaster victims; educational opportunities for physicians and medical students; residency programs that feature international rotations for residents; and information on international travel and health.

Medical Student Programs

College of Medicine's Global Medical Student Program 
Receive training and address Global Health issues in a classroom setting through the enrollment of four Elective courses including the application of Spanish in the context of the medical field and the opportunity to study tropical medicine in Costa Rica. Students are required to fill out an Education abroad form before applying.

Learn Medical Spanish in a total immersion program for Medical students, residents, physician assistants, nurses and other health professionals. Discover the benefits and uses of tropical medicine all while living with a local family and doing simulated patient interviews.

AAFP – Global Health Service and Educational Opportunities
AAFP’s vision is to transform health care to achieve optimal health of patients, families, and communities by serving the needs of members with professionalism and creativity. 

Global Health Track 
The College of Medicine Global Health Track (COM-GHT) is a longitudinal program of scholarly study and inquiry for those medical students with a strong interest in global health. All students enrolled in the University of Kentucky College of Medicine would be eligible to apply for participation in the COM-GHT. Students must apply to participate in the COM-GHT. Those who satisfactorily complete the following requirements will receive recognition at graduation and specific mentioning of their global interest in the Dean’s letter:

  • Introduction to Global Health (or equivalent)
  • International Primary Care Clerkship/FM853 (or equivalent)
  • Research, educational and/or service activities related to global health (e.g. Hispanic Health Fair, IFMSA projects, Medical Spanish or Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases elective/CPH, summer or other research projects which could be related to global health, etc).

Research in the College of Medicine

UK College of Medicine has committed substantial resources to develop modern research space to facilitate basic, translational, and clinical research. Currently, UK College of Medicine has more than 229,000 square feet of research space. These facilities house a productive faculty of well-funded investigators who regularly publish in top-tier journals and garner highly respected research awards.  The productivity of the faculty has led to impressive gains in acquisition of extramural research funding.
