There are a lot of ways to get involved with Shoulder to Shoulder Global. Over 140 volunteers participate in our four annual health brigades to Ecuador, seeing over a thousand patients. Our volunteers are made up of health care professionals, university of Kentucky faculty and students, and local community volunteers.
If you are interested in global health or community development, don’t hesitate to apply here for one of our medical brigades or internships. You can also join the STSG Student association or take a for-credit course in global health!
Participating on the health brigades is a great opportunity to serve others and get practical medical experience! Here are some of the testimonies of people that have been part of the brigades:
“I knew it was going to be a special trip, but calling it a ‘special trip’ doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of what STSG is for the communities that receive health care and especially for those who have the opportunity to volunteer”
—Erin Walker, PA Student 2014
“It was one of the best weeks of my life. I would definitely recommend this trip to people looking to help the community.”
– Eric Enzweller, Undergraduate Student Alternative Service Break, 2014
“I encourage anyone who has not been to go. The people are incredibly friendly and the beautiful terrain is truly something special. There will likely be times when you feel uncomfortable due to the lifestyle differences or the language barrier, but it is an experience worth stepping outside of your comfort zone—even if, just for a week.”
– Brooks Richardson, Undergraduate student Biology major, 2014
