Communication Disorders in Israel

SUMMER 2014 • UK SPONSORED EDUCATION ABROAD PROGRAM • DATES: MAY 13 - 29

This education abroad offering brings together UK undergraduate and graduate students across a variety of disciplines (Communication Sciences and Disorders, Special Education and Psychology students) to consider the influence of service delivery models on therapeutic outcomes. UK students will be immersed in interdisciplinary clinical observation activities as well as clinical research activities along with Haifa University students under the direction of a clinical supervisor and faculty mentor. UK students will interact with Haifa University Communication Sciences and Disorders students, Haifa University faculty and clinical supervisors and community therapists.

Prior to arriving in Haifa, UK students and HU students will be assigned readings that relate to the populations of interest (autism, adults with acquired communication disorders) and the service delivery models to be investigated (parent as clinician, interdisciplinary service delivery models, natural environments). UK students will be paired with Haifa students and will communicate with HU student peers via email to introduce themselves and establish rapport. When possible, students will meet via Skype prior to arrival. UK students will rotate between three clinical sites
