
UKIC’s Community Outreach & Engagement office promotes cross-cultural education and involvement with Kentucky’s international community.
The Community Liaison Kay Roberts works with area K-12 teachers on programming to enhance cultural understanding. Curriculum resources and artifacts are available for loan to teachers and the community, classroom presentations are also available. The office also coordinates a signature event for International Education Week, a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to celebrate the benefits of exchange worldwide.
As a returned Peace Corps volunteer and member of the board of directors of the Kentucky Peace Corps Association, Kay Roberts supports recruiting for United States Peace Corps.
The office also coordinates Kentucky-Ecuador Partners, a chapter of Partners of the Americas. Citizens on both sides of this partnership plan and implement projects in program areas such as agriculture, health, rehabilitation, education and cultural exchange.
For the university community, the office assists with language proficiency testing for languages not taught at UK and with identifying cultural consultants for research protocols.
