Modern Islamic Art and its sources in the Middle East

Dr. Oliver Leaman, professor of philosophy and Zantker professor of Jewish studies, is coming to speak about modern Islamic art. This event will be on September 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the UK Art Museum Galleries.

John Esposito is a world-renowned scholar of Islam and profesor of Islamic Studies and International Affairs at Georgetown University. He will be speaking about the future of Islam on September 10, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in the Singletary Center Recital Hall.“-future-islam”

Kosher/Soul? Black-Jewish Identity Cooking

Michael W. Twitty, a recognized culinary historian and independent scholar of African American food and folk culture, is lecturing and demonstrating his talents at UK on September 8, 2014 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the MLK Center. He is one of the few recognized international experts of the re-construction of early Southern food that was prepared by enslaved African American cooks. 

Year of the Middle East Kickoff

The Passport of hte World Program will focus on the Middle East: Crossroads of the World this year. All faculty, staff and students are invited to the event on Thursday, September 4, 2014 from noon to 2:00 p.m. on the Student Center Lawn.

"Sepharad at the tip of Africa" Pre-Kick Off Event

The influences represented in the music and poetry of the Moroccan Jewish community spans across Africa, the Mediterranean and the Liberian peninsula. Vanessa Paloma will be performing these Judeo-Spanish Romances, Judeo-Arabic piyyutim and Hebrew prayers with a medieval harp and percussion.

Graduate Awards in the United Kingdom - Info Session


On Wednesday, September 3 at 5:30 p.m. in 213 Funkhouser, the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards will host an information session on graduate study in the United Kingdom.   

Education Abroad Fair

Education Abroad (EA) will hold its annual Fall Fair on Wednesday, September 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom.

Cultural Coffee Hour

Have a cup of coffee and become aware of the diverse multicultural perspectives at UK. Meet international students and learn how to get involved, where to eat and how to adjust to life at UK. Snacks and beverages are provided. You are welcome to bring an item to share and talk about your culture. This event is Co-sponsored by the University of Kentucky International Center, and the Counseling & VIP Center.
