On Wednesday, Feb. 20th, the Confucius Institute at the University of Kentucky had the distinct pleasure of welcoming the performers and crew of the Internationally renound operatic initiative “I SING Beijing” to Lexington, Kentucky. This wonderful performance drew a vast and varied crowd that included both Chinese and American, educators and performers, community members and more.
The extraordinary program featured modern Chinese compositions (“_Field of Hope” by Gu Jianfen), Chinese folk songs (“Kangding Love Song”), modern American classics (“_It Ain’t Necessarily_” from Porgy and Bess), and even a few familiar operatic titles (“La bohème” and“Candide”). A reception of Chinese food kept attendees at the Singletary Center buzzing with excitement well after the performance. In addition, a private reception in the President’s Room allowed the performers to mingle with UK opera students and staff, all toasting a successful evening.
