Pre-Nursing & Pre-Health in Northern Ireland


INFO SESSION: THURSDAY MARCH 6 at 4:00pm in 315-T of the Nursing Building

SUMMER 2014 • UK PARTNER EDUCATION ABROAD PROGRAM THROUGH IFSA BUTLER • 
DATES: JUNE 14 - JULY 27 

Students will spend six weeks at the University of Ulster in Coleraine, Nothern Ireland and earn credit equivalent to DHN 212 and BIO 208 with lab credit.  Courses will be taught by University of Ulster Biomedical Sciences faculty.  Students will stay in University of Ulster campus apartments with single bedrooms and shared bathroom, kitchen and living spaces.  Breakfast is provided Monday through Friday in the student cafeteria and grocery stores are nearby for other meals.

 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Field visit to medical microbiology laboratories in Belfast City Hospital as part of Microbiology course
  • Opportunity to undertake practical laboratory work within the laboratories of the Centre for Molecular Biosciences within the Biolmedical Sciences Research Institute, the top-ranking such facility in theUK
  • Vist W5 (who-what-when-where-why) science education center in Belfast and complete "DNA, a question of Taste" workshop.  This special, day-long workshop explores the evolution of gene TAS2R38 (which codes for a taste receptor in the tongue) and features practical lab techniques including DNA isolation, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), restriction enzyme digests and gel electrophoresis
  • Visit the Titanic Centre in Belfast, an opportunity to learn about the history of Belfast
  • Weekend excurision to Dublin, including hop-on hop-off bus tour, visit to the Guinness storehouse, and free time to explore.  Transportation from Coleraine to Dublin, weekend accomodations in a bed & breakfast, and some meals included
