Are you interested in supporting a student's Education Abroad experience?
“I studied abroad in London through a program directed at First Generation students, and I wouldn't trade my experience for the world. I learned how the world interacts with itself in terms of commerce and communication. This has helped to broaden my understanding of the size of the world I live in, and to define my place in it,” said Brandon King a UK Honors Student who received a UK Education Abroad scholarship.
Through the University of Kentucky’s Education Abroad program, students have the resources for finding education abroad programs that are right for their academic needs as well as finding funding in the form of scholarships, grants and loans to support these international experiences.
For first generation students, the Henry & Josephine Duysen Scholarship and the Kevin & Sheri Collins Endowment Scholarship provide selected students with opportunities to study, research, intern, teach and even serve abroad. Although those scholarships are only available for first generation students, UK Education Abroad and International Studies Abroad (ISA) have announced new diversity scholarships available for all students.
“Any new experience is scary at first, but participating in an education abroad program is the best way to experience the true meaning of being an educated person. You immerse yourself in another culture and gain an understanding of your place in the world. Everyone who has ever studied abroad has said it was the best investment they ever made,” said Matthew Deffendall, director of First Generation Initiatives at UK.
However, many students find that they need more financial help in order to make their academic dreams a reality.
If you are interested in supporting a student's global experience, UK Education Abroad offers a quick and simple way to contribute through the UK Online Giving portal. Donations do not need to be large in order to be impactful. Every donation, no matter how how great or small, will help support a student's education and travel expenses, making education abroad opportunities achievable for more students.
