Global Initiative: Menore Lake started the online news magazine “World Report”

Few students have the kind of passion for world news that recently-graduated International Studies major MeNore Lake has. Two years ago she sought to fulfill a need at the University of Kentucky through this passion. She wanted to create an online news publication that would publish monthly articles written by students about international politics, economies, science, sports, and culture, and thus The World Report was born.

UK Welcomes Students From Brazil Scientific Mobility Program

Twenty-five Brazilian students will become Kentucky wildcats in the fall, as part of UK's partnership with the Brazil Scientific Mobility Program (BSMP) and the Institute of International Education (IIE).

Two UK Graduate Students Selected as Delegates to the Commission on the Status of Women

In a competitive application process, two University of Kentucky graduate students, Ibitola Asaolu and Chioma Okafor, were selected as delegates to the Commission on the Status of Women review meeting held in the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

Asaolu and Okafor were among 15 practicum delegates of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), a 98-year-old organization recently nominated for the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize.

Two University of Kentucky International Students Received the Viji Jeganathan Award

Two University of Kentucky international students have received scholarships awarded by the UK International Center to support their academic pursuits on campus.

These students received the Viji Jeganathan Award, a university-funded scholarship sponsored by the UK Student Government Association and administered by the UK International Center.

The scholarship supports students who have demonstrated a significant contribution to inter-cultural communication and understanding among students and faculty on campus and promoted friendship across nationality boundaries.

Amanda Pesqueira was awarded the Alltech National Young Scientist Award


Amanda Pesqueira, a UK graduate student in Animal and Food Sciences from Brazil, was recently awarded the Alltech National Young Scientist Award – the Global Award will be announced later this year. Pesqueira shared her story on the Alltech Innovations Blog.

UK, Georgetown College and BCTC Host International Advisers

Educational advisers from 18 countries (e.g., Peru, Kazakhstan, Bosnia, Malawi and Argentina) traveled to Lexington on April 29 to attend a weeklong Training Institute where they learned to navigate the complex process of applying to U.S. colleges and universities.

Last year, I had the opportunity to travel to China with a delegation from the University of Kentucky to advance several partnerships growing between UK's colleges and departments and universities and industries in a country growing in economic importance.
