New Exhibit Showcases Elegance of Chinese Ink Paintings

The University of Kentucky Confucius Institute (UKCI) will usher in the Chinese ink painting and calligraphy exhibition Ink Elegance during Gallery Hop at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, March 17 at the Carnegie Center in Lexington, Ky. The exhibition will continue through May 10, 2017.  
 

2017 UKCI Distinguished Scholar Series: What does it mean to write history? Perspectives from ancient China, Greece, and Israel.

Join the University of Kentucky Confucius Institute (UKCI) and College of Arts and Sciences in welcoming Dr. Stephen Durrant as the second speaker in the 2017 Spring Distinguished Scholars Series. His lecture entitled “What does it mean to write history? Perspectives from ancient China, Greece, and Israel.” and discussion will take place on 3:30 to 5:30, April 11that the Alumni Gallery in William T. Young Library.
 

University of Kentucky Education Abroad & Confucius Institute Gives Students the Opportunity to Travel to China

Being able to apply what is learned in the classroom in a real-world setting is one of the most valuable experiences that a student will have during their college career. The University of Kentucky Confucius Institute and Education Abroad encourages students to engage in applying their education on a global scale, by offering students the opportunity to travel to China on four different trips, including a new trip during spring break, which will host its first group of students this upcoming March.

UK Confucius Institute Partners with Transylvania University in opening of Confucius Institute

The University of Kentucky Confucius Institute recently inaugurated a new Confucius Classroom at Transylvania University in Lexington Ky., on Jan. 30, 2017. The opening of the classroom makes Transylvania the second regional college to partner with UK Confucius Institute, with Asbury College being the first.

UKCI Spring Break Camps

Spring Break is right around the corner and parents will be looking for activities to keep their children engaged throughout the week. The University of Kentucky Confucius Institute has the perfect solution to ensure children have a fun and educational break, by offering a Chinese Language and Culture Spring Break Camp.

The camp will run from April 3-April 7, with activities beginning at 9 a.m., and ending at 4 p.m. each day on the UK campus at Blazer Dining Hall.

2017 UKCI Distinguished Scholar Series: The Inequality of Human Capital Among China’s Children and China’s Future Growth and Stability

Join the University of Kentucky Confucius Institute (UKCI) and College of Agriculture, Food and Environment in welcoming Dr. Scott Rozelle as the first speaker in the 2017 Spring Distinguished Scholars Series. His lecture entitled The Inequality of Human Capital Among China’s Children and China’s Future Growth and Stability and discussion will take place at the Auditorium in the William T. Young Library on Tuesday, March 7, 3:00p.m.

UKIC Statement on Executive Order on Immigration

As most people know, late on Friday afternoon President Trump signed an Executive Order titled “Protecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry Into the United States.” The Executive Order was almost immediately put into force by Customs and Border Protection personnel. On the basis of this order, persons from seven named countries – Yemen, Sudan, Somalia, Iran, Iraq, Libya, and Syria – were denied entry into the US, even if they had been qualified for entry as refugees, and/or possessed valid visas or even possibly permanent residency status (green cards).

UK's Office of China Initiatives, Confucius Institute Increasing Size of Jilin University Summer Teaching Program

Beginning in 2015, University of Kentucky's Office of China Initiatives (OCI) and Confucius Institute (UKCI) have offered UK Education Week @ Jilin University, a summer teaching program at Jilin University (JLU), in order to strengthen collaborative teaching and research between the two universities. This year, due to the popularity of the program with students, the OCI and UKCI have increased the number of faculty they will send to China this summer from three to 10. Applications for this program are being taken now through Feb. 1.

Confucius Institute Celebrates Chinese New Year

The University of Kentucky Confucius Institute (UKCI) will kick off the year of the Rooster by hosting its second annual inaugural Chinese New Year Dinner Celebration on Wednesday, Feb. 1 from 5-7 p.m., at the Hilary J. Boone Center.
 

2017 UKCI Chinese New Year Celebration RSVP

To kick off the Year of the Rooster, the University of Kentucky Confucius Institute (UKCI) is hosting its second Chinese New Year Dinner Celebration. The event will take place 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at the Hilary J. Boone Center.  
 
Open to UK faculty and staff, guests will enjoy a delicious Chinese dinner, a performance of Chinese culture and learn more about how UKCI works to fulfill both its core mission and the mission of the university. UK faculty and staff can RSVP for the event online by Wednesday, Jan. 27.
