Beth Barnes

Beth E. Barnes, Ph.D., is Interim Part-time Assistant Provost for Internationalization and Director of the School of Journalism and Telecommunications in the College of Communication and Information at the University of Kentucky.   

Karen Slaymaker


Karen Slaymaker is the Assistant Director for International Student and Scholar Services at the University of Kentucky. Ms. Slaymaker received her B.S. in Elementary Education from Messiah College in Grantham, PA. She is currently working toward a master’s degree in Higher Education with a focus in Student Affairs at the University of Kentucky.

Ms. Slaymaker has taught English as a second language in Japan and the U.S. At the University of Washington, Ms. Slaymaker worked as a community coordinator for Graduate and Apartment Housing.

Anthony Ogden


Anthony C. Ogden, Ph.D. earned his bachelor’s degree from Berea College and then later studied at the School for International Training (SIT) where he earned his master’s degree in International and Intercultural Management (MIIM). Ogden completed his Ph.D. at The Pennsylvania State University in Educational Theory and Policy with a dual title in Comparative and International Education. 

Derrick Meads

Derrick Meads began working at the University of Kentucky in 2006 as the Director of Communications for the College of Design, where he spearheaded the College’s re-branding efforts through a new website and student recruitment materials.

Meads now serves as the Manager of Marketing and Communications for the University of Kentucky International Center, where he is again leading a re-branding campaign through the development of a new website, print materials and social media. 

Elizabeth Leibach


Elizabeth Leibach has an extensive and diverse background in international admissions, student and scholar advising, employment-based immigration law, and international programming.   International education has been her career path as an active member of NAFSA since 1997.  She has held positions in large state, public and private institutions and developed an immigration practice for an attorney in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Mary Hammons


Mary Hammons began working at the University of Kentucky in 2007.  Prior to coming to the International Center, she spent two years working in Sponsored Projects Accounting tracking receivables on all types of sponsored projects and ensuring compliance with governmental accounting principles, standard practices, and UK business procedures.  She came to the International Center in June of 2012 as the Budget Officer where she oversees grant related activity as well as service center financial standings.
