Get to Know One of UK’s Most Popular Exchange Programs at Maynooth University

Students can learn more about one of University of Kentucky’s most popular exchange programs at Maynooth University, just 15 miles west of Dublin, Ireland, at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, in 207 Bradley Hall.

“No student has ever come back from Maynooth with a bad experience, they love it,” said Laurence Tuccori, exchanges coordinator.

International Students Invited to Training Session for GoinGlobal, New Job Search Software

GoinGlobal is a new software that facilitates the job search process for all University of Kentucky students. The software provides students, faculty and staff with access to a toolkit of resources, which include guides to major cities and countries around the world, internship and job opportunities, and data on cost of living, among many other resources.

UK's Office of China Initiatives, Confucius Institute Increasing Size of Jilin University Summer Teaching Program

Beginning in 2015, University of Kentucky's Office of China Initiatives (OCI) and Confucius Institute (UKCI) have offered UK Education Week @ Jilin University, a summer teaching program at Jilin University (JLU), in order to strengthen collaborative teaching and research between the two universities. This year, due to the popularity of the program with students, the OCI and UKCI have increased the number of faculty they will send to China this summer from three to 10. Applications for this program are being taken now through Feb. 1.

Economics major Jeesun Lim is one student who has thoroughly enjoyed her undergraduate years at the University of Kentucky. UK Indonesian Athlete Finds a Passionate Community in The Big Blue Nation

Throughout her undergraduate years, Nadia Ravita contributed to the vibrant sports culture at the University of Kentucky as a player for the women’s tennis team. At a point in her undergraduate tennis career, she ranked as high as 22nd in the nation. Overcoming obstacles and various injuries, Ravita continuously strived for success in the sport. The senior is now poised to graduate in a few weeks with a degree in management and finance.

Indonesian student Endras Fadhilah performed at the 11th annual Multicultural Student Thanksgiving dinner held Tuesday.

The Multicultural Student Thanksgiving dinner is organized annually as a way to share the American tradition with the University of Kentucky’s multicultural community. The event enables many international students and scholars to experience what could be—and often is— their first American Thanksgiving dinner.

UK Master’s Student Researches HIV/AIDS in the Dominican Republic

After earning his Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from The Ohio State University, Angel Algarin had plans to become a veterinarian. He would soon find out that he had to steer himself in another direction. Algarin wanted to study HIV/AIDS, and he knew that he had to find a way to follow this passion. Soon after, he applied for the master’s degree program in public health at the University of Kentucky.

UK Senior Presents at National Women’s Studies Association Conference

A Nigerian native, Tiwaladeoluwa Adekunle has found a passion for research in the Big Blue Nation. University of Kentucky English and international studies double-major, Adekunle was motivated by her professor and mentor, Charlie Zang MD, to apply to be a presenter in the National Women’s Studies Association Conference held in Montreal, Quebec, this year. The senior received the good news of her acceptance at the beginning of summer break, which gave her time to prepare for her talk on “Afropolitanism: The Pre and Post Dynamics of Decolonization.”

Euphoria in Learning: UK International Student Ambassador is Dedicated to Academia

Shane D’Souza is more than just a Biology and Chemistry major with an on-campus job. The international student ambassador has discovered a passion for academia that propels him both in his undergraduate studies and in his job as a Teaching Assistant for Chemistry.

D’Souza, who lived in the United Arab Emirates before moving to the U.S., said that being an ambassador made the transition to the United States easier for him.

Kavoori Keynotes for International Education Week

The UK International Center will welcome media and entertainment professor Anandam (Andy) Kavoori as its keynote speaker for International Education Week slated Nov. 14-18. Kavoori’s talk, “The Word and The World: Lessons from South Asia and Beyond,” will be held 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, at the William T. Young Library Auditorium.
