UK professor receives prestigious collaborative research grant from China

Xuguo “Joe” Zhou’s entomology research has bolstered the University of Kentucky’s international reputation after he and his collaborator, Yongjun Zhang, received a prestigious research grant from China. 

U.S. Social Movements Shape Lexington Seminar for Pakistani Fulbright Scholars

The University of Kentucky International Center hosted 142 Pakistani graduate students who are studying in the U.S. through the Fulbright scholarship program for the Fulbright Pakistan Enrichment Seminar on Social Movements from November 5-9.
 
The seminar, which was sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Education Foundation in Pakistan, focused on the U.S. civil rights movement and its impact on today’s culture. Pakistani students were also mentored by other Fulbright scholars on tactics for success in U.S. graduate schools.
 

Senior Advisor for USAID to Present 'Let Girls Learn: Education in Developing Countries'

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 3, 2014) Christie Vilsack, Senior Advisor for International Education at the U.S. Agency for International Development, will visit the University of Kentucky on Thursday, November 20, as part of UK's International Education Week.

Speaking at 6 p.m. in Memorial Hall, Vilsack will discuss USAID’s education strategy in her presentation titled, "Let Girls Learn: Education in Developing Countries."

Coffee Research Leads to Successful Partnership in Brazil

Since its cultural debut in the fifteenth century, coffee has become one of the most heavily traded commodities in the world.

“Coffee is second only to oil in terms of value in globally traded commodities, followed in turn by natural gas and gold,” explained Michael Goodin, associate professor in the UK Department of Plant Pathology.

UK Faculty Members Conduct College Teaching Workshops in Qingdao Technological University

Assistant Professor Brandi Frisbi and Associate Professor Kevin Real, from the University of Kentucky College of Communication and Information, and Katherine Rogers-Carpenter, lecturer in the Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and Digitial Studies at the UK College of Arts and Sciences,  led a series of college teacher training workshops at Qingdao Technological University in China from July 14 through Aug. 1, 2014.

Kentucky, China Collaborate on Large-Scale Carbon Capture Project

The University of Kentucky has entered into an agreement with a major Chinese petrochemical conglomerate to develop technologies to capture, utilize and store 1 million tons of carbon dioxide per year from a coal-fired power plant in Dongying, Shandong, China.

UK to Jazz Up China's Music Scene

UK Students Named Fulbright Recipients

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 27, 2014) — University of Kentucky Office of External Scholarships has announced that four UK students have been selected as recipients of Fulbright U.S. Student Program scholarships. The UK recipients are among approximately 1,800 U.S. citizens who will travel abroad for the 2014-2015 academic year through the prestigious program.

UK Helping Afghanistan Mine its Rich Resources

The University of Kentucky College of Engineering's Department of Mining Engineering is helping Balkh University (BU) in Mazār-e Sharīf, Afghanistan build the capacity and quality of its mining engineering program.

The “U.S.-Afghan University Partnership with Balkh University in Engineering” program is funded by a $749,964 grant from the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Workshop Will Help UK Faculty Apply for Fulbright Awards

UK is highly ranked for the number of faculty conducting ground-breaking research on the international stage through the Fulbright Program.

Many of the successful Fulbright recipients were advised by David Adams, the former director of the East Asia/Pacific region for the Fulbright Program, whom the UK International Center brought to campus in 2013.
