ACE Peer Review Team “Admires” UK’s Progress in Comprehensive Internationalization

A team of American Council on Education (ACE) representatives visited the University of Kentucky to conduct a peer review in early September, as part of UK’s participation in the ACE Internationalization Lab 2.0.

Lexington, Ky. (March 31, 2015) — The University of Kentucky International Center is creating Communities of Global Specialists (CGS) for seven geographic regions to establish complex interdisciplinary teams that will allow UK to have a strong global presence at home and abroad.
According to Susan Carvalho, associate provost for internationalization, UK has many campus experts who lead thriving international projects, but those projects may walk away if the faculty member moves to another institution.

U.S. Social Movements Shape Lexington Seminar for Pakistani Fulbright Scholars

The University of Kentucky International Center hosted 142 Pakistani graduate students who are studying in the U.S. through the Fulbright scholarship program for the Fulbright Pakistan Enrichment Seminar on Social Movements from November 5-9.
The seminar, which was sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Education Foundation in Pakistan, focused on the U.S. civil rights movement and its impact on today’s culture. Pakistani students were also mentored by other Fulbright scholars on tactics for success in U.S. graduate schools.

Coffee Research Leads to Successful Partnership in Brazil

Since its cultural debut in the fifteenth century, coffee has become one of the most heavily traded commodities in the world.

“Coffee is second only to oil in terms of value in globally traded commodities, followed in turn by natural gas and gold,” explained Michael Goodin, associate professor in the UK Department of Plant Pathology.

Assistant Professor Brandi Frisbi and Associate Professor Kevin Real, from the University of Kentucky College of Communication and Information, and Katherine Rogers-Carpenter, lecturer in the Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and Digitial Studies at the UK College of Arts and Sciences,  led a series of college teacher training workshops at Qingdao Technological University in China from July 14 through Aug. 1, 2014.
