Muslim Students, Faculty Reassured of Inclusion

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 19, 2015) ‒ The University of Kentucky Muslim Student Association, an organization with a sustained 43-year history on campus, was honored last week at a reception hosted by President Eli Capilouto at Maxwell House, the university president’s official campus home.
 

Basketball Tournament at UK Celebrates Chinese New Year

For Chinese students, the Chinese New Year is like Christmas for Americans.

Getting together and celebrating the Chinese New Year with family members is the top priority in almost everyone’s to-do list. But for Chinese international students at UK, the to-do list is unlikely to be accomplished.

To give Chinese international students a sense of home, Chinese student organizations at UK organized a three-on-three basketball tournament on Sunday afternoon in the Seaton Center to bring Chinese students together.

African Students Association photo project debunks stereotypes about Africa

Students from African Students Association (ASA) at the University of Kentucky gathered on Friday in the Student Center to participate in a photography project to raise awareness of stereotypes about Africa.

“We organized this event to help the UK community become aware that Africa is not a continent of just poverty,” said Bill Kofi Aboagye, president of UK African Students Association.

Interprofessional Teamwork in Global Health Prepares Students to Serve in Ecuador

 UK students are learning to work effectively as in interprofessional teams to provide health services to individuals and communities in an international setting.
 
The Interprofessional Teamwork in Global Health course is part of Shoulder to Shoulder Global's (STSG) Ecuador brigade program. STSG is a UK unit that engages multiple academic and community partners to improve the health and well-being of impoverished communities overseas.
 

Cuba-U.S. Relations: a panel discussion


LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 10, 2015) – A panel discussion about Cuba and U.S. relations will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, in the UKAA Auditorium in Young Library.
 

UK Woman's Club Sponsors Education Abroad Scholarship

The UK Woman’s Club (UKWC) collaborated with University of Kentucky Education Abroad to create an education abroad scholarship for full-time undergraduate and graduate students at UK.
 
Students must be Kentucky residents with a minimum GPA of 3.2 and demonstrate financial need in order to qualify for the scholarship. Preference is given to nontraditional or underrepresented minority students.
 

EA Scholarship Open House


UK Education Abroad will host a Scholarship Open House on Wednesday, February 25 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the third floor of Bradley Hall. 

During this event, students will learn about a variety of education abroad scholarships, including those for Pell Grant students, those for students studying critical languages, those for students participating on select UK Partner programs and more.  In addition, students can have their scholarship applications reviewed and chat with financial aid counselors. 

Free food will be available.

UK's Annual Cultural Diversity Festival Accepting Event Submissions


LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 5, 2015) 
- The University of Kentucky Cultural Diversity Festival will celebrate UK and Lexington's global community through several events from Monday, Feb. 16, through Friday, March 13, and everyone is encouraged participate! UK CDF is now accepting event submissions from student organizations and campus units, departments and colleges.
