In support of the College of Arts & Sciences’ Passport to the World Initiative and the 2015 Year of the Middle East campaign, UK Education Abroad partnered with the College to sponsor a faculty development seminar in the Middle East focusing on contemporary issues pertinent to the region.

The UK Confucius Institute and UK Education Abroad recently collaborated to offer a programming site visit to China. The visit allowed faculty and staff members from across different colleges to learn first-hand about international higher education issues in China and to explore education abroad programming opportunities for UK students to study in China.  

Two UK students are awarded Diversity Scholarships to study abroad

UK International Studies Abroad Diversity Scholarship has been awarded to two students to help them further their studies through a program abroad.
Derrick Quarles, a kinesiology major, and Miyana Sarver, a human communications major, will receive between $2,500 and $5,000 that can be applied to an International Studies Abroad (ISA) study abroad program of their choice within two years.

UK Confucius Institute and Education Abroad support UK faculty travel to China

Lexington, Ky. (April 22, 2015) — With the goal of establishing and enhancing education abroad programming and learning about international higher education opportunities in China, the University of Kentucky Confucius Institute (UKCI) and Education Abroad have collaborated to support UK faculty members’ travel to institutions of higher education in China in May.
Founded in 2010, UKCI has devoted itself to sending UK students, faculty, high school students and Kentucky educators to China, said Huajing Maske, director of UKCI.

UK Has First Faculty-directed Full Semester Program Abroad

Lexington, Ky. (April 20, 2014) — The College of Education has launched the University of Kentucky’s first ever faculty-directed semester-length program, Kinesiology and Health Promotion in Valencia, Spain, which is directed by Joaquín Fenollar, lecturer in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion.
Fenollar’s program is a huge step forward for international faculty-directed programs in the College of Education and at UK.

German exchange program connects UK student with global firms

When Adam Hilton, a junior at UK, heard about an exchange program in Germany that catered to business students, he found himself months later packing his bags to attend Germany’s top-ranked business school for the fall semester of 2014.
Hilton attended WHU-Otto Beisheim School of Management, in Vallendar, Germany, which is known for its exceptional national and international reputation.
Hilton is a finance and marketing double major with a minor in international business.

College of Education Offers Wide Array of Programs Abroad

The College of Education has a growing number of faculty directed programs abroad. These programs help undergraduate and graduate students progress towards graduation through international experience and adds a competitive advantage in the job market.
Currently, there are five College of Education study and teach abroad programs during the summer intersessions.

Education Abroad Grant Supports UK Faculty-Directed Programs

Lexington, Ky. (April 2, 2015) — 
Education Abroad at the University of Kentucky awarded Program Development Grants to four UK faculty members to support their international travels for the purpose of establishing faculty-directed education abroad programs.

UKIC Launches Communities of Global Specialists to Build UK's International Presence

Lexington, Ky. (March 31, 2015) — The University of Kentucky International Center is creating Communities of Global Specialists (CGS) for seven geographic regions to establish complex interdisciplinary teams that will allow UK to have a strong global presence at home and abroad.
According to Susan Carvalho, associate provost for internationalization, UK has many campus experts who lead thriving international projects, but those projects may walk away if the faculty member moves to another institution.

UK Sponsored Program Deadlines extended

Hurry! There are only a few spots left and you can still study abroad this summer on 4 of UK’s Sponsored programs! The UK Sponsored: Mountains to Coast, Field Studies in Costa Rica Summer 2015 application deadline has been extended to April 27th.  Students in this program will be traveling to Costa Rice taught by UK faculty.
