College/Unit: College of Arts & Sciences

What services do you and your teammates provide to campus?

We schedule all courses for the College of Arts & Sciences, and we also do student recruitment for domestic and international students. We oversee the three Living Learning programs that apply to the College of Arts & Sciences: these are residence halls for students who have similar interests or majors, and the residence halls host special programming. Our team does data analysis for the College, including enrollment trends, demographics, recruitment, student outcomes, and grading. In conjunction with the Hive technical services team, we host and manage many important student forms online, such as graduation applications and petitions.

Tell us about your collaboration with ITS and the ITS services that your department utilizes:

ITS provides the tools we need to support the students, faculty, and staff in the College of Arts & Sciences.
In many ways, our college is one of the leaders on campus in terms of data tracking and analysis. In order to continue to improve and grow, we work with Advanced Analytics to surface that data on HANA, then to Tableau. I was fortunate enough to be one of the first Tableau Super Users at UK, so I have had the privilege of watching the Tableau community grow from the ground up into the collaborative force it is today.
We host a server page that all 28 of our departments use. We build the pages in Tableau based on the HANA data that ITS provides.
We also work with the Student Lifecycle Management Team regularly. Currently, we’re trying to get our English as a Second Language program integrated more with SAP. They’ve helped us get a math index and chemistry course recommendations added to student admissions profiles. This may seem like a small change, but it has really helped students and advisors make the best choices when selecting courses.
