ITS Alert | Office 365 “PhishPoint” Phishing Scam

Recently, Information Technology Services (ITS) has been made aware of a new Office 365 phishing scam, “PhishPoint.” This scam consists of a customer receiving what appears to be a standard email linking to a SharePoint document. Once the link is clicked, the customer is taken to a standard SharePoint file, including a standard access request to OneDrive.

Account Manager Notifications Tab Rollout

On Thursday, August 2nd, ITS will rollout the new Notifications tab in the Account Manager (ukam.uky.edu). This new feature will allow you to select options to receive an email or text message when modifications are made to your account including changes to your linkblue and Google passwords, your password reset questions, and your email delivery location.

The June meeting of the Cloud Community of Practice (CCoP) hosted Preston Peine, Productivity Education Solution Specialist at Microsoft.  Peine discussed “Security Best Practices for Office 365 OneDrive and SharePoint Storage” which included a demonstration of the Admin Center, where default policy settings are controlled for file sharing, storage and restoration of deleted files.

Phishing Warning: Verify Email To Avoid Close Down

Several UK employees have received false emails requesting the customer to verify their email to prevent their Office365 account from closing because it has exceeded its quota limit. The email includes links, and if clicked, it may download malware to your machine. Malware includes viruses with malicious intent.

Several University staff have received phone calls from someone posing as a deputy with the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.  This call is not from the Sheriff's Office and is a scam designed to collect personal Information.

University of Kentucky Information Technology Services (ITS) announced the recipients of the Customer Excellence Award for Leadership in IT Advancement at a ceremony on Thursday, May 24. During the same ceremony, 33 ITS employees were honored for a combined 645 years of service to the university.
