University of Kentucky Institutional Research and Advanced Analytics (IRAA) hosts Open Lab sessions from 9-11 a.m. on the first and third Friday of each month in Room 108 of the Don & Cathy Jacobs Science Building. Sessions are open to all campus customers and partners.

In recent days, there has been a new global scale cyber-attack. The variant, known as Petya, is very similar to the WannaCry ransomware. Petya was first observed on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 and there have been reports of sectors in the United States - including financial, telecom, transportation, healthcare and energy - that have reported impacted operations due to Petya.

Spectrum (formerly Time Warner Cable) is the cable TV provider for many areas of the University of Kentucky (UK). In recent weeks, Spectrum has contacted several departments on campus with a message similar to the one below.
In 2010, approximately 700 devices were installed on campus by Time Warner Cable minimizing the risk of TV signal loss. In rare cases (e.g., where a TV has been plugged directly into a coaxial wall plate without a cable box) TV signal will be lost effective 7/11/17.

Lexington, KY (June XX, 2017) – Cyber security awareness and defense is a critical component of protecting your devices and personal information against phishing attacks. Over the past few months, University of Kentucky Information Technology Services (ITS) has distributed multiple notifications to students, faculty and staff regarding phishing attempts, spam, malware, ransomware and compromised emails and passwords. ITS has also produced several posters/flyers that can be printed and posted in centralized work areas to raise awareness about cyber security.

Several UK employees have received false emails regarding employee fiscal year 2017 salary allocation guidelines and merit increases. The email links to a very convincing website, that is not an University of Kentucky (UK) website (screenshot below).
Please be assured that any email asking for your bank account number is a phishing scam. UK will NEVER ask you to provide your bank account information via email.

At 5 p.m. on Friday, June 16, until Monday, June 19 at 7 a.m., Information Technology Services (ITS) will conduct necessary maintenance that will require SAP and all related systems (e.g., SAP, myUK, myUK Mobile, ProSAM, HANA, etc.) to be offline or have limited functionality.
All normally scheduled production jobs in SAP on Friday, June 16, need to be completed by 5 p.m. Jobs not completed by 5 p.m. will automatically be canceled so the system can be shutdown appropriately for scheduled modifications.
