ITS Division: Office of the CIO

Service Area: Infrastructure Project Management & Estimation

What services do you and your teammates provide to campus?

We manage network infrastructure and cabling installation projects all across campus and HealthCare, both locally and at remote sites.  We coordinate pathways and technician schedules for installation of wiring and network equipment for customer  network ports . This includes network cabling, equipment, and phones (both standard and Voice Over Internet Protocol). In Parking Structure #2, we have a system called a 5ESS switch, which is a Windstream switch that routes over 27,000 phone connections in the University community.

What campus units do you collaborate with?

We work a lot with the Campus Physical Plant Division by helping coordinate installation of network ports on smaller renovations. We’re also very involved with large projects such as the Student Center with Capital Projects Management Division. It’s being built by contractors and we’re coming in and installing the University network. It’s a huge project with two or three tractor trailer loads of equipment to install.

What are your workplace values?

Make sure the customer is satisfied. If you make the customer happy, everything goes well.

What is your favorite part of working in ITS and UK?

I’ve worked for UK for over 20 years. I’m passionate about networks and computers and that’s what we get to work with every day in our area.
