Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Celebration


The University of Kentucky and the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government invite you to join us on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Heritage Hall in the Lexington Convention Center for a FREE event celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Freedom March will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the Commemorative Holiday Program will be held in Heritage Hall at 11:00 a.m. The theme for this year's program is Dr. King's Vision in an Age of Betrayal. This year's featured keynote presenter is American anti-racism activist and writer, Mr. Tim Wise. 

Mr. Wise is among the most prominent anti-racist writers and educators in the United States. Recognized by Utne Reader as one of "25 Visionaries Who Are Changing The World," he has spent the past 25 years speaking to audiences in all fifty states, on over 1000 college and high school campuses, at hundreds of professional and academic conferences, and to community groups all across the country.

Following the program, there will be a FREE showing of Hidden Figures at 2:00 p.m. at the Kentucky Theater, located at 214 East Main Street at courtesy of One World Films. The film showing is free and open to the public.
