Family Weekend Schedule - Saturday, October 7, 2017

 

7 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.  Keeneland Breakfast with the Works

(Keeneland is located off Versailles Road across from Blue Grass Airport.) Every Saturday during the race meeting, experience the sunrise, sights, and sounds of Keeneland at our popular Breakfast with the Works program. Watch world-famous Thoroughbreds as they work out in preparation for their next big race; listen to trackside commentary and find out more about the art of horse training and exercising; enjoy a delicious breakfast with your family in the Equestrian Dining Room for $7 (children 3 and under eat free); and participate in free children’s activities and live demonstrations until 9 a.m. Reservations are not taken or needed for Breakfast with the Works. 7 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Lexington Farmers Market 

(Cheapside Park) Enjoy a morning visit to downtown Lexington, and check out fruits and vegetables, herbs, flowers, jams and jellies, honey, Kentucky specialties, and more. For more information, visit www.lexingtonfarmersmarket.com.   

 

8 a.m. – 12 noon  UK Visitor Center

(Main Building) Stop by the Visitor Center to get information about campus and Lexington. All are welcome to take a guided tour while visiting campus, but reservations for tours are required. Call 859-257-3595 or visit www.uky.edu/VisitorCenter for a tour schedule and more information. 

 

8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.  UK College of Engineering Breakfast

(Raymond Student Commons in the Ralph G. Anderson Building) Engineering students and their families are invited to a free breakfast featuring exhibits from departments and student organizations as well as an opportunity to meet the dean of the college and professors. 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.  UK College of Communication and Information Breakfast Social

(Grehan Building) All families and students are invited to join us for a breakfast social to meet faculty and advisors and learn about upcoming classes, student activities and organizations, internships, and study abroad opportunities.

 

9 a.m. – 5 p.m.  Johnson Student Recreation Center

(South Campus, Complex Drive) Families are welcome to tour UK’s state-of-the-art recreation facility. Families are invited to work out with their students (valid UK student ID required; guests must be at least 14 years old and show a photo ID). 

 

9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Kentucky Horse Park

(4089 Iron Works Pike) The Kentucky Horse Park lives up to its reputation as the place to get close to horses! Home to many different breeds, large and small, the park introduces you to the world of the horse. Experience the behind-the-scenes sights and sounds of a real working horse farm as you explore the grounds. Kentucky Horse Park tickets include admission to the world-renowned International Museum of the Horse, the American Saddlebred Museum, a Horse-Drawn Tour, and equine presentations throughout the day. (W.T. Young Library, Alumni Gallery) Learn about the different opportunities abroad for your student – including study, intern, research, service, and teach abroad programs. (Taylor Education Building front lawn) There will be music, food, games, and more! Come and hang out with our entire college family and our alumni as we celebrate the great past, present, and future of our college. 

 

10 a.m.  UK College of Nursing Information Session

(315-T College of Nursing Building, 751 Rose Street) Find out what it’s REALLY like to be a nursing student. We’ll start promptly at 10 a.m. with an information session, before departing on a tour of the college for a chance to see labs and areas off-limits to the general public. 11 a.m.  Live Horse Racing at Historic Keeneland

(Keeneland is located off Versailles Road across from Blue Grass Airport.) Attending races at Keeneland is a favorite pastime in Lexington! Bring the whole family to enjoy the horses, pageantry, and tradition! Gates open at 11 a.m., and post time for the first race is 1:05 p.m. Races run throughout the day approximately every half hour. 12 noon – 5 p.m. ● The Art Museum at UK

(Located in the Singletary Center for the Arts) Visit the Art Museum to see the museum’s permanent collection – works of art from a rich variety of times and places are on view at all times. The collection includes significant examples of painting, sculpture, works on paper, and photography. Visitors can also enjoy our sculpture garden, directly outside the museum’s entrance. 5 p.m.  Family Weekend Tent Party - Tickets SOLD OUT!

(Tent located at the corner of University Drive and Cooper Drive on Pieratt Fields – also known as Johnson Center Fields) As we get ready to watch the Cats take on Missouri, enjoy a delicious meal, caricature artists, inflatables, Crank and Boom ice cream, giveaways, and more! This is the only place to get the official Family Weekend 2017 t-shirt! There will be something for Wildcat fans of all ages! Even if you are not attending the game, you are welcome to attend. Tickets are $25 per person. All attendees (including students and children) must have a ticket for admission.

You are encouraged to purchase tickets at your earliest convenience. The Parent and Family Association cannot guarantee availability; ticket availability is limited by the capacity of the tents. This event has sold out in recent years. Tickets will be available online at www.uky.edu/familyweekendtix starting Friday, August 18. Tickets must be purchased in advance by 4 p.m. on September 15, 2017 (pending availability); no refunds will be issued after this date. Tent party tickets will not be available for sale at the tent.

 

7:30 p.m.  UK Football vs. Missouri

(Kroger Field) Tickets for Family Weekend guests are available beginning July 11 at 9 a.m. ET by calling the UK Ticket Office at 800-928-2287. Guest tickets are priced at the group rate and are $40 or $50 based on seating location and availability. Tickets will also be available for $5 for UK students. Please reference “Family Weekend” when calling. You are encouraged to purchase tickets at your earliest convenience. Given the high demand for UK athletic tickets, the Parent and Family Association and UK Athletics Department cannot guarantee availability. 7:30 p.m. (Doors open at 7 p.m.) ● UK Opera Theatre presents La Traviata

(Singletary Center for the Arts) La Traviata is one of the cornerstones of the operatic repertory. The score is littered with fantastic tunes that are now wildly famous (even those who aren’t at all operatically versed will know many of the arias from countless TV ads) but beyond that it is the coherence of the whole piece that makes it a masterpiece.
