K Week Family Events
Our full schedule of events will be released online and through the UK Guides mobile App (search for K Week). A printed schedule of events will be available this fall when your new student moves into a UK residence hall or when your off-campus student arrives for their first K Team meeting on August 18, 2017. For questions regarding move-in, please visit the Undergraduate Housing and Residence Life page for more information.
UK Parents and Families Reception
Friday, August 18, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m., Starbucks in William T. Young Library
The UK Parent and Family Association is hosting an informal reception while students participate in their first K Team meeting. Meet and mingle with UK administrators, faculty, staff, and fellow UK families. Enjoy a chair massage. Refreshments will be provided. There will be activities for younger family members. Participate in Letters from Home; write a letter to your new UK student, and the Parent and Family Association will deliver it a few weeks into the fall semester. President Eli Capilouto will offer brief remarks to parents and families during the reception.
Family Information Sessions
Saturday, August 19 - Check K Week schedule for details.
On Saturday morning, there will be a number of information sessions on topics of interest to new students and their families.
New Student Induction Ceremony
Saturday, August 19, 3:30 p.m. Memorial Coliseum
Watch with pride as your new student officially becomes a part of the Wildcat community at the New Student Induction Ceremony. This event will be live streamed online for families who are unable to attend. Student-only K Week activities begin the evening of Saturday, August 19.
Missing part of K Week?
While we encourage all families of new students to take part in K Week, we understand that some may not be able to do so. If that is the case for your family, rest assured that your new student won't have to attend K Week events alone. Students will attend some K Week events with their K Teams, and residence hall staff often accompany groups of students to K Week events. Whether you are able to come to K Week or not, encourage your new Wildcat to attend as much as possible for the free food, free t-shirts, giveaways, and wonderful information to assist in the transition to life as a UK student!
All parents, guardians, grandparents, stepparents, and family members of UK undergraduate students are invited to join the UK Parent and Family Association, which strives to enhance student success by actively engaging parents and families as part of the larger university community through publications, programs, and services.
To support UK parents and families (and ultimately, our students), we offer:
- Cat Chat email newsletter, our most popular service, sent 2-3 times a month during the school year
- Special events such as Family Weekend and a K Week parents/families reception
- Parent and Family Association website, Facebook page, and Twitter page
- Support from the Parent and Family Association staff
- Special goodies, including a Parent and Family Association tote bag, for parents and family members who sign up in person on campus at events like see blue. U summer orientation and K Week
- Parent Advisory Council, a volunteer group of approximately 35 UK family members
Best of all, Parent and Family Association membership is free! Activate your free membership online at www.uky.edu/joinukpfa or fill out a membership form in person at "see blue." U orientation.
The Parent and Family Association invites students and families to join UK's annual Family Weekend celebration, October 6-8, 2017. More information is available at www.uky.edu/FamilyWeekend.
