All parents, guardians, grandparents, stepparents, and family members of UK undergraduate students are invited to join the UK Parent and Family Association, which strives to enhance student success by actively engaging parents and families as part of the larger university community through publications, programs, and services.
To support UK parents and families (and ultimately, our students), we offer:
- Cat Chat email newsletter, our most popular service, sent 2-3 times a month during the school year
- Special events such as Family Weekend and a K Week parents/families reception
- Parent and Family Association website, Facebook page, and Twitter page
- Support from the Parent and Family Association staff
- Special goodies, including a Parent and Family Association tote bag, for parents and family members who sign up in person on campus at events like see blue. U summer orientation and K Week
- Parent Advisory Council, a volunteer group of approximately 35 UK family members
Best of all, Parent and Family Association membership is free! Activate your free membership by completing an online form at www.uky.edu/joinukpfa or filling out a membership form in person at "see blue." U.
Student Leadership Positions
The UK Parent and Family Association recognizes that the families of our students play an important role in the university community. We believe that by involving them in campus activities and informing them about campus resources, we can positively impact undergraduate student success.
Parent and Family Association student leaders have the opportunity to improve their communication, leadership, and customer service skills. They gain valuable work experience with a highly visible, dynamic team, while strengthening interpersonal skills through networking with UK administrators, staff, new students, and their families.
Become a Parent and Family Event Coordinator
Parent and Family Event Coordinators assist with the coordination of major parent and family events; including Family Weekend, K Week Parents and Families Reception, Big Blue Thank You, Letters from Home, Spring Family Reunion, and PFA recruitment, and more. Event Coordinators are responsible for maintaining event budgets, contacting vendors, creating communication and marketing plans, working with volunteers, and creating new events and initiatives.
The 2018 Event Coordinators have been selected. Applications for the 2019 Event Coordinators will be available in the fall. These are paid positions with most of the job responsibilities taking place in the spring and fall semesters.
Parent and Family Ambassadors (PFAs) support the work of the Parent and Family Association by providing outstanding customer service and assisting with special parent and family events (i.e. see blue. U summer orientation, K Week, and Family Weekend).
Applications for the 2018 Parent and Family Ambassadors are available now through noon on February 22, 2018, online at http://bit.ly/PFA2018. These are paid positions with most of the job responsibilities taking place on campus in the summer.
As well as maintaining all of the responsibilities of a Parent and Family Ambassador, the Lead Parent and Family Ambassador serves as the first point of contact for the PFAs; coordinating summer staff schedules, handling membership database issues, assisting with PFA training, and performing other duties as assigned.
Applications for the 2018 Lead Parent and Family Ambassador are available now through noon on February 22, 2018, online at http://bit.ly/LPFA2018. This is a paid position with most of the job responsibilities taking place on campus in the summer.
Parent and Family Association members seeking an active role in the association can apply to serve on the Parent Advisory Council. This council recommends programming activities for the Parent and Family Association, gives feedback about university programs, discusses issues of concern to family members, recommends content for publications, participates in campus events like K Week and Family Weekend, and assists with the recruitment of prospective Parent Advisory Council members.
To apply to be on the Parent Advisory Council, email the Parent and Family Association at email@example.com for an application.
