Getting Around Your Community

Are you looking for ways to get to campus or around the Lexington Community? You have several options from cycling, bus, ride share, and your car.

Lextran

University of Kentucky students, faculty and staff may ride any Lextran bus route free of charge simply by showing their valid Wildcard ID, as part of the new BluPass program.

Kentucky Wildcab is a free, late night on-demand transportation option for UK students, provided by the UK Student Government Association and operated by UK Transportation Services using 4-, 7- and 12-passenger vehicles. Kentucky Wildcab will operate Thursday through Saturday, from 10 p.m. through 3 a.m., when fall and spring semester classes are in session. This free service is primarily designed to provide a ride home to UK students and their guests while promoting responsible late-night transportation decisions. Kentucky Wildcab is limited to the general campus vicinity. The pre-established travel zone is designed to accommodate the majority of areas adjacent to campus frequented by students and is generally bounded by Clays Mill and Red Mile Road to the west, Sixth Street to the north, Tates Creek to the east and Southland Drive to the south.

UK Transportation Services offers many services to our students. Such as:

  • Commuter Personal Vehicle Permits that are designated for specific area parking on campus. Student permits range from $148 to $296, depending on location. Motorcycle and motor scooter permits are $88.
  • Seasonal Shuttles These include the free Holiday Shopping Shuttle and the free shuttle to Blue Grass Airport at the start of the fall, semester and spring breaks.
  • Ride Home Express will operate at the start and end of the Thanksgiving, winter semester and spring breaks, and will serve 15 cities along four routes. Costs range from $30 - $155. Round-trip and one-way fares available.

  • Bike Voucher Program is part of a suite of alternative transportation options available to the UK community that also includes the BluPass partnership with Lextran and the Big Blue Cycles fleet for residential students who opt out of bringing a car to Lexington.

UK Zipcar

Car sharing is a low-cost, short-term car rental option with an hourly rate for use of a car. UK Transportation Services has partnered with Zipcar to offer car sharing on campus. Unlike traditional car rental services, the minimum age allowed to use the car sharing program is 18.

Car sharing is a great option for those who don’t have cars on campus, those who regularly use alternative transportation, and those who want to avoid wear and tear on their vehicle. It can be used for quick trips - to the grocery store, to off-campus meetings or to explore Lexington - as well as for longer journeys.
