Annual Conference

The Kentucky Girls STEM Collaborative will hold its Annual Conference on Monday, June 15, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Lexington, Kentucky.

On June 16, 2009, Ms. Jo Sanders, gender equity expert, will be our featured speaker for a workshop for Kentucky teachers to address the latest research on gender-biased classroom interactions. Through this workshop, teachers will be involved in activities focused on current Attribution Theory, Illinois Valedictorian Study and Stereotype Threat research.

Running parallel to Ms. Sanders' workshop will be a tour of engineering industries and other related facilities for middle and high school girls: "KY GIRLS DAY OUT." The tour is being organized by members of the Girls Collaborative Leadership Team and will leave from the University of Kentucky, tour up to four industrial and agricultural engineering facilities in Fayette and Woodford Counties, and return to UK late in the afternoon. The purpose of the trip is to familiarize the girls with the professional skills and preparation needed to enter the STEM workforce.

Register for these events. For more information, please contact Chair, Sue Scheff.
