Lexington Police Department

With an authorized strength of 600 sworn officers and nearly 150 civilian personnel, the Lexington Police Department is the largest division within the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government. The agency's mission is to serve and protect all citizens and visitors in the city with a high level of integrity, transparency and dedication to community policing. The department is led by Police Chief Lawrence Weathers.  

How We Work Together

UKPD and the Lexington Police Department both provide law enforcement services to the University community within Fayette County. It is not uncommon to encounter representatives from both organizations at major events and incidents affiliated with the University of Kentucky and its interests.

 

Transylvania Department of Public Safety

The Transylvania Department of Public Safety’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for the Transylvania community by providing dedicated professional service that ensures a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, and staff. Transylvania Department of Public Safety officers work closely with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and attend meetings with their counterparts from the Lexington police department, the Fayette County sheriff's office, Kentucky State Police and the University of Kentucky Police Department regarding common problems and criminal activity in the area. The department is led by the Director of Public Safety, Gregg Muravchick.

How We Work Together

UKPD and the Transylvania Department of Public Safety (TDPS) work in collaboration with one another in the support of numerous community service organizations and community initiatives such as Special Olympics Kentucky. UKPD and the TDPS also support one another’s mission within their respective institutions of higher education regarding sharing policy ideas, best practices, and lessons learned from their daily experiences within their specific university environments. 

Fayette County Sheriff’s Office

The Office of the Fayette County Sheriff is committed to serving our community with honor, courage, and integrity, while enhancing the quality of life in our community. I am proud to lead our uniformed deputies and dedicated civilian personnel as they work every day to provide professional service to the citizens of Lexington.

We are committed to be responsive to the unique needs of our community. By collaborating with other partner agencies we work together to meet the needs of our community. How We Work Together

UKPD and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office both provide law enforcement services to the University community within Fayette County. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office plays a significant law enforcement role during the University of Kentucky’s home football season assisting in escort, VIP protection, and spectator safety needs.

 

Kentucky State Police

The Kentucky State Police promotes public safety through service, integrity and professionalism utilizing partnerships to prevent, reduce and deter crime and the fear of crime, enhance highway safety through education and enforcement, and safeguard property and protect individual rights.

How We Work Together

UKPD and the Kentucky State Police both provide law enforcement services to the University community within, and outside of Fayette County. It is not uncommon to encounter representatives from both organizations working together to solve criminal cases on University affiliated property throughout the Commonwealth. The Kentucky State Police are also available to assist UKPD within Fayette County at major events and incidents affiliated with the University of Kentucky and its interests.
