WHAT IS THE STARR PROGRAM?
Self-defense Techniques And Risk Reduction is a hands on program of self defense for women only. It is a comprehensive course that uses realistic self-defense tactics, along with teaching awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and avoidance, while progressing to hands-on defense training. The STARR program provides women with the knowledge to make an educated decision to resist an attack, or to use other risk reduction techniques to avoid being victimized.
The first night of class consist of classroom time learning crime and rape prevention practices, dating issues, domestic or relationship violence, and the vital doctrine of protection. The second night through the last night is devoted to hands-on self-defense techniques where the student will be hitting something or someone (instructors). The class ends with an optional simulated attack by the instructor where the student must use the defensive techniques they’ve been taught to escape the scenario.
Whether athletic or not, young or old, it is assured that each woman will walk away more empowered.
What is the Cost?
The cost is based on a ONE TIME—LIFE TIME FEE! After attending and graduating from the first class, the student can come back as many times as they wish—FREE OF CHARGE.
The STARR class is potentially free! Here’s how it works; you write a check or money order for the amount below, and if you attend every night of the class and graduate, your check or money order is returned to you. If not, your check or money order is retained for deposit and a fee is charged to you. Check should be made out to the University of Kentucky Police Department, along with giving the dates of your class in the memo section of the check. Checks must be received on the first night of class and no later!
