Photo of UK's Main BuildingExecutive direction and management of the University of Kentucky's operations, both academic and fiscal, are carried out by the Board of Trustees and the President. As Chief Executive Officer of the University, the President is responsible for all official communication with the Board and external agencies. The President provides leadership on all policy, planning, and development functions of the institution.

Amy K. Hisel, joined the Office of the President in March 2012 and serves primarily as the liaison to the Board of Trustees.  A 1983 UK graduate with a BA in Psychology, she has been at UK since 1992, with positions at Sanders –Brown Center on Aging, Department of Chemistry, Department of Geography, and the Dean’s Office in the College of Arts and Sciences. 

 

 

Linda Machan, Executive Assistant

Linda Machan has served as the President’s Executive Assistant since 2011. Linda began at UK in 1991 in Community College System Chancellor’s Office. She transferred to the University Relations Office in 1999 and later the President’s Office in 2001.

 

 

 

Reneé Smith, Administrative Support Associate

Reneé Smith joined the Office of the President in June 2014.  Prior to UK, she held positions in Men’s Basketball at Western Kentucky University, the Office of the President at Kentucky State University, and the Governor’s Office for Local Development.  A native of Lexington, KY, Reneé attended Kentucky State University and Midway College.

 

 

 

Bill Swinford, Chief of Staff

Bill Swinford has served as President Capilouto’s Chief of Staff since the President’s arrival in July 2011. Bill also is a Lecturer in the Department of Political Science, teaching courses in “Constitutional Law” and “Civil Liberties”.

A native of Cynthiana, Kentucky, he earned his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Kentucky and his Ph.D. in Political Science from Ohio State University. He was a tenured Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Richmond (Virginia) before returning to Kentucky in 1999 to work for Gordon Davies at the Council on Postsecondary Education. He served in several capacities at the Council, including Chief of Staff. Bill returned to UK in 2004 to serve as Director of Policy Analysis and then Assistant Vice President in the University Budget Office prior to being appointed Chief of Staff.
