UK Faculty and Students

The University of Kentucky offers a wide array of benefit offerings, including health, vision, and dental plans, as well as a variety of voluntary benefits. UK's generous retirement savings plan featuring a 2-for-1 employer match and a variety of supplemental savings plans. See highlights below, or visit UK Benefits online.

Health Insurance

Because UK's health plans are "self-insured, faculty and staff may choose from a wide variety of affordable health plans. Employees also enjoy all the benefits of having a nationally renowned medical center on site. Health plan choices range from affordable HMO options to PPO plans with more extensive physician choice options. UK also offers flexible plans designed exclusively for employees who travel extensively or live outside the state of Kentucky. All health plans feature the same pharmacy benefit program, which helps keep prescription drug costs low.

Dental Insurance

There are five dental plans offered by two carriers, with offerings designed to meet the needs of you and your family.

Vision Insurance

UK offers a rich vision insurance benefit, including subsidies for both prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses.

Flexible Spending Accounts

Eligible health care and child care expenses may be paid with tax-free dollars throughflexible spending accounts.

Life and AD&D Insurance

Basic life insurance coverage in the amount of $10,000 is provided at no cost. Additional term life insurance may be purchased in an amount up to three times an employee's annual salary (up to a maximum of $375,000). AD&D may be purchased to pay in the case of an accidental death or serious injury.

Voluntary Benefits

Additional benefits are available to purchase with automatic payroll deductions. Benefits include long term care insurange, universal life insurance, short-term disability, cancer insurance, group home and auto insurance, and pet insurance.


UK campus

UK's Health & Wellness Program with on-site facilities is dedicated to help employees achieve a higher quality of life and take preventive life changing measures. Offerings include on-site gym facilities, health education and counseling programs, focused on such topics as weight loss, smoking cessation, stress management and more.

Retirement Plan

UK offers a 2-for-1 match (10% of base salary) to a retirement account (403b) in addition to an employee's 5% tax-deferred contribution. All contributions are immediately 100% vested. Voluntary tax-deferred contributions may be added as well.

Employee Education Program

UK will provide tuition reimbursement to employees of to 6 credit hours per semester at any Kentucky state-funded college or university.

Elder Care

This on-site resource center provides counseling support and tools with employees faced with the need to provide care for parents or older family members.

Recreation Opportunities

University faculty and staff are offered membership to Spindletop, which offers a restaurant in the clubhouse, seasonal parties and a swimming pool. In addition, faculty and staff may purchase memberships to the University Club of Kentucky which boasts a 36-hole golf course.
