The goal of the Provost's Office is to be a resource for all of the University of Kentucky, with a primary emphasis on enhancing UK's academic excellence and its brand as an institution that focuses on the Commonwealth in ways that have a global impact.

Making those priorities a reality involves cultivating strong and long-lasting partnerships with the campus community and fostering a culture of continuous improvement, trust, collaboration, diversity and inclusion. As such, the provost's office is a resource for colleges, deans, students, faculty and staff at the University of Kentucky.

Vice Provost 

Larry Holloway, Vice Provost

Larry Holloway began his role as Vice Provost in July 2018 and serves as the primary liaison between the Office of the Provost and the academic units. In the liaison role, he analyzes and prioritizes requests from academic units and, in consultation with the Associate Provost for Finance and Operations, makes decision recommendations to Provost Blackwell for final consideration. In addition, he is authorized to make a myriad of routine decisions from the colleges on the Provost's behalf and serves on the front line of addressing complex issues that arise. He also leads and/or supports selected university-level and provost-level initiatives.

 

 

 

Academic Excellence

Kirsten Turner, Associate Provost for Academic Excellence Operations

Kirsten Turner, as the Associate Provost for Academic Excellence Operations, facilitates and coordinates between the academic administrative units under the Provost Office, including Student and Academic Life, Enrollment Management, UK International Center, Faculty Advancement, and the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching.  

Turner earned her Ph.D. at the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education in the Center for the Study of Higher Education. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Kentucky and a bachelor’s degree from Hanover College. Her research interests deal with the public benefits of higher education as well as the current state of the American professoriate.

 

 

Enrollment Management 

Christine Harper, Associate Provost for Enrollment Management

Christine Harper became the Associate Provost for Enrollment Management in June 2018. From 2001-2010, she progressed through a series of leadership roles of increasing responsibility in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and First-year Experience at Ohio State University, where she ultimately served as the senior assistant director of the office. She served during a period of unprecedented enrollment growth and increases in quality, retention and diversity for Ohio State. From 2011-2017, she served as assistant dean of academic and student affairs in the UK College of Dentistry. Her team’s portfolio included admissions, financial aid, registrar, and student success. 

 

Faculty Advancement 

GT Lineberry, Associate Provost for Faculty Advancement

GT Lineberry serves as the Associate Provost for Faculty Advancement. The Office for Faculty Advancement promotes academic and administrative excellence by working collaboratively with members of the University community and external stakeholders through professional development. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Finance and Administration 

Lisa Wilson, Associate Provost for Finance and Administration

Lisa Wilson is the Associate Provost for Finance and Operations. She oversees the Provost area administration, institutional research, strategic planning, and institutional effectiveness and assessment. In addition, she is responsible for oversight and direction of the Provost area budgets, area business, administrative process and policy, and the allocation of resources for all units reporting to the Provost.

 

 
 
 

International Center 

Sue Roberts, Associate Provost for Internationalization

As the Associate Provost for Internationalization, Sue Roberts oversees the UK International Center, including the divisions of Education Abroad, International Student and Scholar Services, and International Partnerships, in addition to the Office of China Initiatives and the Confucius Institute. Her campus-wide role includes enhancing global research, graduate education, and curriculum initiatives within each of UK’s colleges, and chairing the International Advisory Council. She also serves as professor of geography, a position she has held since 1991. In her more than 15 years at UK, Roberts has held a number of roles including director of the international studies program and associate dean for internationalization in the College of Arts and Sciences.

 

Student and Academic Life

Greg Heileman, Associate Provost of Student and Academic Life

Greg Heileman began this position in August 2017, after serving as the vice provost for teaching and learning at the University of New Mexico. In this role, he is responsible for supporting the University of Kentucky's goals through vision and direction of the Student and Academic Life unit. He coordinates student services policies and programs that have a strong impact on the University's curricular and co-curricular goals. Additionally, he serves as chief advisor to the Provost in recommending new university-wide initiatives and special programs that provide the right support and services across the pillars of student success. Greg aims to encourage collaboration among the talented people across campus and execute a vision based on a simple, but profound goal: helping students in need. 

 

 

Teaching, Learning, and Academic Innovation

Kathi Kern, Associate Provost for Teaching, Learning, and Academic Innovation

Kathi Kern began her role as Associate Provost for Teaching, Learning, and Academic Innovation in July 2018. She has led pedagogical innovation on our campus since 2010 as the Director of the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching. In 2016 her responsibilities expanded to include the Academic Preparation and Placement Program, various peer tutoring programs, and academic coaching.  Throughout the spring of 2018, Kathi provided invaluable effort and vision as part of UK's long-term financial planning process—the “Our Path Forward” initiative. In addition to continuing to support initiatives under Our Path Forward, Kathi leads initiatives focused on dynamic pedagogical change, effective teaching by faculty and graduate students, curricular redesign to promote student-centered learning, innovative program design, and creative approaches to assessing the effectiveness of teaching and learning strategies. She also focuses on creating new pathways for Kentucky citizens to access the resources of the University, providing avenues for deeper collaboration between the University and industry partners and aligning educational pathways with workforce needs of the future. Her work aligns with the University’s Strategic Plan and long-term enrollment strategies.
