Lextran Offers Free Rides to Cyclists on Bike to Work Day
On Friday, May 18, Lextran will join bicycling advocates throughout Lexington and across the country to celebrate National Bike to Work Day. Bike commuters who ride Lextran this Friday will enjoy a free trip.
In addition to the financial benefits of riding the bus, public transportation offers health benefits as well. Using public transit can increase the number of steps a person walks each day by factoring in the walk to or from the bus stop. Those individuals who bike to their stop instead of walking may reap additional health benefits, as three hours of bicycling per week is shown to reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke by fifty percent.
All Lextran buses are equipped with bike racks which can hold two bicycles on the front of each bus. Those passengers not familiar with Lextran routes and schedules may plan their trip by using the trip planner at www.lextran.com. Additional bike resources are available by visiting www.bikelexington.com.
In the event that the Lextran bike rack is full, passengers should be prepared to wait for the next bus. For more information, please contact Lextran Customer Service at (859) 253-4636.
