NCAA Final Four Impact on Parking, Bus Service

As we head into an exciting weekend for Big Blue Nation with the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team playing in the NCAA Final Four national semi-final game, Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) would like to alert the campus community to parking and bus service changes in place for this weekend, April 4-6.

The Lexington Division of Police, in cooperation with the University of Kentucky Police Department, will be utilizing various parking areas on city streets adjacent to campus during the upcoming weekend. As such, parking will be partially or completely restricted in the following areas: Conn Terrace, Crescent Avenue, Elizabeth Street, State Street and University Avenue.

Parking in these areas will be restricted beginning Friday, April 4 at 5:00 p.m., until noon on Sunday, April 6. Any vehicles in violation of posted “No Parking” notices will be towed at the owner’s expense. The Division of Police will begin posting these notices on Thursday, April 3. The Commonwealth Stadium K areas go off control at 3:30 p.m. on Friday and are off control through the weekend until 5:00am on Monday, which should accommodate students relocating their vehicle from off-campus housing areas impacted by the parking restrictions.

Additionally, the top levels of both the UK HealthCare Parking Garage (PS #8) and the Good Samaritan Hospital Parking Garage will be unavailable to general parking on Saturday, April 5. These areas will be used for police operations staging.

Finally, the South Limestone Garage (PS #5) will be unavailable for retail customer parking on Saturday, April 5. The facility closes at 1 p.m. Absolutely no after-hours access will be permitted.

No CATS bus service will be impacted on Saturday. However, Lextran’s Colt Trolley routes may be detoured or suspended due to crowding and/or closed streets. Both Lextran and PTS will be communicating any changes to service through their respective Twitter streams, found at and Lextran will also be posting updates on their Facebook page.

Members of the campus community are encouraged to tune into 1700 AM (WQKH 253) to hear campus parking and transportation information. The station broadcasts 24 hours, 7 days a week.
