Angela Carman, DrPH, is an assistant professor at the University of Kentucky, College of Public Health, in Health Behavior & Society. Her research interests include strategies for organizing and financing public health services , public health leadership, community engagement and quality improvement. Dr. Carman is also facilitator/trainer with the Kentucky and Appalachia Public Health Training Center, a HRSA funded grant program, located in the University of Kentucky’s College of Public Health.
Prior to pursuing her DrPH at UK, Dr. Carman served as the CEO of Berea Hospital, in Berea, Kentucky, and led the efforts of the hospital in a strategic plan to enhance its clinical contribution in the Berea community. This effort resulted in the sale of the hospital’s assets to a Catholic hospital system. After the sale she remained CEO and led the hospital in obtaining designation as a critical access hospital. Following that, she was responsible for the transition of that facility, through an internal merger with a tertiary care provider belonging to the same Catholic hospital system. She was promoted to Vice President of that larger organization, and led efforts to more effectively integrate the work of the hospital within that tertiary care system.
Dr. Carman received her BS degree in Business Administration at Berea College. She received her Master’s in Business Administration at Eastern Kentucky University. She is certified as a Human Resources Professional by the Society of Human Resources Management, certified as a Healthcare Executive by the American College of Healthcare Executives and certified as a Quality Improvement Associate by the American Society for Quality.
