Michael D. Smith is Assistant Dean for Evaluation and Planning in the College of Public Health. A former hospital administrator with more than twenty years of experience, he is a faculty member in the Department of Health Services Management and an affiliate of the Gerontology Department and of the Human Development Institute. He has a Master’s and Doctorate in Philosophy from Loyola University of Chicago and a Master’s in Health Administration from Indiana University. He has taught both health administration and philosophy, with a focus on professional and organizational ethics He has served on the Medical Center’s Ethics Committee, the University Assessment Council, and the Institutional Diversity Advisory Council. As Executive Director of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and the Donovan Scholars, he oversees UK’s lifelong learning programs for almost 1,400 older adults.
