Strategic Plan

The strategic plan is intended to guide the Department of Health Management and Policy over a 3-year time frame with selected objectives having shorter timelines. The department chair collected background information about the state and performance of the department, which contributed to the internal and external situational analyses. The strategic plan was then developed by ad hoc committees of core (tenured and tenure track) as well as research and clinical track faculty with 50% or greater appointments in the department. The following 3 subcommittees met to discuss priorities and submitted drafts to the department chair, Dr. Borders, for incorporation into this report.

Research goals subcommittee: Ty Borders, PhD (chair), Glen Mays, PhD, and Doug Scutchfield, MD

Education goals subcomittee: Sarah Wackerbarth, PhD and Rick Ingram, DrPH (co-chairs), Julia Costich, JD, Hefei Wen, PhD, and Kathi Harp, PhD

Service goals subcommittee: Martha Riddell, DrPH (chair), Angie Carman, DrPH, and Jennifer Knight, DrPH

Melody Hall assisted with the collection and documentation of information; Scott McIntosh provided student enrollment statistics; and Margaret McGladrey provided grant funding information.

After assembling draft materials, the ad hoc committee met as a group to further discuss additions or changes. A revised draft was then shared again with all primary, secondary, part-time, and adjunct faculty members for their comments. Of note, the strategic plan takes into account the University’s 2015-2020 strategic plan, “Transforming Tomorrow,” and the College of Public Health’s mission, vision, and values.

The final strategic planning document is presented here.
