Kentucky Public Health Workforce Assessment

The University of Kentucky College of Public Health, along with Eastern Kentucky University, Western Kentucky University, University of Louisville, and the Kentucky Department for Public Health, developed a statewide public health workforce assessment.  This large, statewide effort culminated in three Kentucky Public Health Workforce Assessment reports:

Kentucky Public Health Workforce Assessment for Professionals and Support Staff

Kentucky Public Health Workforce Assessment for Managers and Supervisors

Kentucky Public Health Workforce Assessment for Directors and Senior Leaders

Over 2,000 individuals in the state and local public health workforce completed the assessment on KY-TRAIN between May and August, 2012, with an approximate return rate of 52%.  Individuals who took the assessment identified their level of competence for each of the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals, which were developed by the Public Health Foundation Council on Linkages. Each stage of the effort was carried out with input from public health practitioners. These reports are valuable resources for state and local public health departments as they work to develop and strengthen their organization’s public health workforce capacity. Over 75 local reports were also created for single county and district health departments to help them target their training and development needs.
