All UK Students are invited to participate in the SMART BLUES team effort, which will include collaboration with citizens from across the Commonwealth.


The University of Kentucky is one of only 20 universities worldwide chosen to compete in the United States Department of Energy's 2009 Solar Decathlon.

The university's SMART BLUES team will design, fabricate, construct, and operate a solar-powered home as part of a solar village on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. in the fall of 2009. Teams are judged in ten contests that measure everything from the home's engineering and design to its comforts, livability and marketability.
