Shaker Concepts: 12#

return to virtual tour

Shakers were skilled farmers and artisans. Their quest for simplicity and perfection is reflected in their fine designs and craftsmanship. Even today the term Shaker is synonymous with excellence around the world. Although, Kentucky Shakers no longer exist in their community at Pleasant Hill, Kentucky still holds a lasting influence that demonstrates their planning strategies and relationships to proportion, color, space and light.

The s.ky blue house is designed to both capture and express a similar blend of beauty, simplicity and passivity of various elements related to historic Kentucky. Filled with local materials, the house is modern, historic, and eclectic. The Shaker concepts that are visible throughout the house allow for the maximization and functionality of space. The furniture pieces were selected not only to maximize the space within the house but also to provide additional storage seen through the built-ins, bump outs, pullout table and wardrobe designs. The s.ky blue team worked with local professionals to develop the millwork of the house. As you tour the house notice the trim, wood panels, cabinets and ceilings which are actual representations of this work.
